2. Mind map
of
Lesson: Synthetic
fibres and plastics
3. Nylon is also used for rock
climbing. A nylon thread is
actually stronger than a steel
wire
Nylon
Nylon is man-made fibre
it was made without
using any natural raw
materials
It was prepared from coal ,
water and air.
Nylon fibre was strong
elastic and light.
It was lustrous and easy to
wash. We use many articles
made from such nylon , such
as socks ropes tents
toothbrushes car sheet belts
sleping bags curtains etc.
4. Polyester
Polyester is another
synthetic fibre. Fabric
made from this fibre
does not easily wrinkled.
It remains crisp and is
easy to wash. It is so
quite suitable for making
dress materials.
Terylene is a popular
polyester. It can be
dream into very fine
fibres that can be woven
like any yarn.
Polycot is a mixture of
polyester and cotton.
Polywool is a mixture
polyester and wool.
Pet is a very familiar form
of polyester. It is used for
making bottles utensils
films wires and many
other useful products.
5. We wear
sweaters and
use shawls or
blankets in the
wnter. Many of
these are
actually not
made from
natural wool.
Acrylic
These are
prepared
from another
type of
synthetic
fibre called
acrylic.
The wool
obtained from
natural
sources is
quite
expensive.
6. Plastics
Plastic is a polymer like the
synthetic fibre.
Plastic can be recycled ,
reused , coloured , melted
etc.
Plastic which gets
deformed easily on
heating and can be bent
easily are known as
thermoplastics
Plastic articles are
available in all possible
shape and sizes.
There are some plastics
which when moulded once
can not be softened by
heating. These are called
thermosetting plastics.
