2. INTRODUCTION:-
The clothes which we wear are made of fabrics. Fabrics are made from fibers
obtained from natural or artificial sources.
Natural fibers like cotton, wool, silk etc. are obtained from plants or animal. The synthetic fibers
on the other hand, are made by human beings.these are called synthetic fibres.
Natural fibres
Synthetic fibres
A synthetic fiber is also a chain of small units joined together. Many such small units
combine to form a large single unit called a polymer.
3. TYPES OF SYNTHETIC FIBERS:-
Fiber was obtained by chemical treatment of wood pulp. This fiber was called rayon or artificial
silk. Rayon is mixed with cotton to make bed sheets or mixed with wool to make carpets
NYLON:- IT is man made fibre . It was prepared from coal , water and air
Characterstics:-
It was first fully synthetic fibre.
nylon fibre was strong, elastic and light. It was lustrous and easy to wash.
nylon is used for making clothes, ropes, toothbrushes, sleeping bags and curtains.
Nylon is used for making parachute and ropes for
rock climbing.
Polyster is another synthetic fibre. Fabric made from
this fibre its easy to wash
its quite suitable for making dress material
terylene is popular polyester
PET ( polyethylene terephthalate) is very famliar
form of polyester it is used for making bottles,
utensils, films, wires etc.
4. PLASTICS:-
plastics is also a polymer like the synthetic fibre
Polythene is an example of a plastic.it is used for making commonly used polythene bags.
plastics which gets deformed easily are known as thermoplastics. Polythene and PVC are
some examples of thermoplastics. They are used for manufacturing toys, combs and various
types of containers
there are some plastics which when
moulded once, can not be softened by
heating. These are called thermosetting plastics.
two examples- bakelite and melamine
bakelite is apoor conductor of heat and
Electricity. It is used for making electrical switches
melamine is a versatile material.it resist fire
And can tolerate heat
