1. Types of Relationships
Family Relationships: A family is the first “place” where a person
learns to live and relate with others. It is the important relationship
because in a family we have a lot of contact with family members
because of the warmth and support they give us.
Intimate Relationships: This relationship involves close contacts and
associations between people and it involves sexual relationships, for
instance, those between wives and husbands.
Friendship Relationships: These relationships are formed outside our
family, and are freely chosen, that is, I can choose who I want to
become friends with. For example, I can befriend someone at church,
at school or at a club; we mix with these people freely at different
places.
Professional Relationships: These kinds of relationships are formed
at the workplace. Workmates need to relate well in order to work well,
effectively and productively. This includes relationships between
superiors, colleagues, subordinates and co-workers.
