and difference” –
• My Soap Opera is similar to others in the genre as it will
touch on events and themes that other Soap Operas
previously have such as murder, violence and
alcoholism. It will differ by having mainly a younger
cast of characters.

Weekdays) –
We have chosen to air the soap opera 8pm just
after Eastenders on Mondays, Tuesdays,
Wednesdays and Thursdays. People of an older age
group (16+) would watch TV at this time as its not
too late and it is on just after Eastenders, one of the
most popular Soap Operas
Competition in the Genre?
• Ackley Bridge (Channel 4)
• Eastenders (BBC1)
• Coronation Street(ITV 1)
Target audience (Katz, Maslow, Hartley)
–
The target audience of of both males and
females from all ethnicities and ranging from
the ages 16+.
In the trailer we will have a ‘strong woman’
Rebecca Feasey’s (2007) this will appeal to a
female audience as they will idolize this
strong figure. With respect to Maslow there
will be an emotional scene in the trailer so
that the audience will become emotionally
attached to the characters, therefore taking
on the role as ‘caregivers’. With respect to
Katz’ Uses & Gratifications Theory, the
audience will be able to ‘personally identify’
with characters in the trailer as they will all
have different and distinct qualities.
