Linda Williamson
1. Last in our line-up of leading ladies is Linda Williamson.
She concludes our month of inspirational women, by telling us what the best and worst business
decisions are she’s ever made.
Best Business Decision
Deciding to follow through on becoming a Chartered Accountant.
There was a stage when I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do as a career, and the thought of Articles
and Auditing didn’t sound very glamorous to a “twenty-something”. But looking back, I learned so
much in those three years, and it taught me the meaning of hard work.
I love what I do, and being an Accountant allows one so many options in terms of career choices.
CHEP is a prime example of this.
Worst Business Decision
Taking work too seriously.
In my earlier working years, I felt that everything had to be perfect and expected the same from
everyone else. This led to working crazy long hours, not letting go of tasks and always putting
work first.
I think it’s important to have a clear sense of priorities in one’s life, and although I believe strongly
in working hard and delivering on commitments, work is not more important that one’s health,
happiness or family & friends.
