Maximising Leadership Potential: Developing the Skills and Strategies for Authentic Leadership
In order to advance into the highest levels of your organisational structure, a refined and authentic leadership suite of skills that complements your
existing technical expertise is an imperative. These skills are needed to effectively navigate complex environments and manage people with an
authentic leadership style. Whilst this tailored skillset will naturally develop with your vision of success as your ambitions change, its foundation will
cement your professional potential.
Academics and STEM professionals face many complex obstacles and modifications to the scope and impact of their roles. Authentic and effective
leaders are able to set themselves apart in their management skills, technical expertise, and in their vision to engage at the strategic level. Influential
leaders must also possess the ability to maintain powerful positive relationships and motivate others to ensure that strategic directions and outcomes
are met.
Create a strong foundation of unique skills and strategies in this interactive workshop to prepare you for career advancement and leadership
authenticity. This hands-on workshop is specifically designed to equip aspiring leaders with practical techniques and strategies needed to develop an
authentic leadership style. Participants will also learn to manage teams effectively and form the basis of your vision of success.

Defining success in your own terms
Too often, we simply allow others to define what success
should look like. Leaders should aim to match their own
expectations, not the expectations of others. So how does
one define success? For Professor Pascale Quester, it
means becoming realistic about what is possible and what
not to pursue. In this exciting opening keynote session,
Professor Pascale Quester will explore:
• How the key to success is self-determination
• Choosing one’s goals for the future
• Prioritising the necessary tasks and allowing for failures
along the way

their strengths and how weaknesses are opportunities for
growth and learning. Susan realises the value of staying true
to your values and how constant self-reflection can help to
develop your authentic leadership style for success, career
growth and a healthy, happy work life. She will explore:
• The power of conversation and vulnerability to enhance
workplace relationships
• How an understanding of your personal brand can help
further your career
• Techniques for identifying your strengths and weaknesses
• Strategies for translating self-reflection into successes

quest. With the amount of research, development, planning,
and external relations that your role may entail, this balance
may seem impossible. In order to get a handle on your long
“To-Do” list and stay positive while doing so, it is vital to
manage your commitments, workloads and personal life
effectively. This interactive panel will explore:

We talk a lot about leadership and success, but what does success really
mean to you? What does it look like? The vision of success is different for
everybody, it may change as you grow and develop, both professionally
and personally. What were you striving for when you started out on your
leadership journey, and how did it end up looking? We have invited some
of Australia’s most influential and inspiring leaders to reflect on their own
personal vision for success, how it has changed and developed with them,
and what are their insights and advice for turning that vision into a reality.

ABOUT THE EVENT
Despite the fact that women comprise more than half the academic
and corporate staff in the Australian Higher Education workforce, their
representation steadily declines among the ranks of the most senior
leaders. While significant progress has been made in recent times to
redress the balance, women are still facing challenges when it comes to
accessing the upper echelons of the Higher Education sector.
The 8th National Higher Education Women’s Leadership Summit
2016 is the premier event for leaders in the sector, and seeks to provide
practical solutions and inspiration for women seeking to improve their
leadership impact and potential in this unique environment. Women who
have navigated their way to the top level will offer advice and inspirational
stories about the defining moments within their career. The event will
equip delegates with practical ideas and the requisite tools to attain
personal career goals and develop their leadership journey.

Implementing Innovative Leadership: Influencing Strategic Change Through Powerful Leadership
Leaders today are required to lead, innovate and influence. They must be able to develop new strategies and implement change. A leader that fails to
keep up with the current trends runs the risk of losing their ability to operate efficiently and strategically. Since innovation is of immense value in any role,
it is vital for leaders to create powerful visions of success that enable a workplace of continuous improvements, innovation and initiative. Executing an
effective strategy for innovation is an important key to unleashing your full leadership potential.
Leaders often climb the ladder through their achievements and technical abilities, but few are prepared with the leadership skills necessary to develop and
manage powerful leadership and innovation. It is a common myth that powerful leaders are born, but with the right training, leaders can unlock the qualities
and skills that will help ensure influential and innovative ideas.
In order to achieve an inspired and ambitious team, leaders must create a work environment conducive to innovation and creativity. In this workshop,
delegates will explore the leadership skills needed to increase team performance and fast-track research outcomes, in a real-time decision-making
environment. This workshop will also help delegates become successful innovators, as well as gain the ability to anticipate future trends for the creation of
ground-breaking discoveries.
Implementing strategies for building your innovative leadership power
• Defining your purpose and vision
• The key behaviours of powerful innovative leaders
• Understanding the differences between technical management and people leadership
Creating innovative cultures
• Enabling a climate for innovation within organisations
• Developing innovative systems, tools, and strategies

FOLLOW THIS EVENT ABOUT THE EVENT Despite the fact that women comprise more than half the academic and corporate staff in the Australian Higher Education workforce, their representation steadily declines among the ranks of the most senior leaders. While significant progress has been made in recent times to redress the balance, women are still facing challenges when it comes to accessing the upper echelons of the Higher Education sector. The 8th National Higher Education Women’s Leadership Summit 2016 is the premier event for leaders in the sector, and seeks to provide practical solutions and inspiration for women seeking to improve their leadership impact and potential in this unique environment. Women who have navigated their way to the top level will offer advice and inspirational stories about the defining moments within their career. The event will equip delegates with practical ideas and the requisite tools to attain personal career goals and develop their leadership journey. They must be able to develop new strategies and implement change. A leader that fails to keep up with the current trends runs the risk of losing their ability to operate efficiently and strategically.
