Foundations for Progression - Creating a Leadership Framework and Showcasing Your Skills
As the operations role evolves, aspiring and emerging leaders need to be agile and prepared for the challenges they may face in their transition to a
leadership role. In order to do so, they must develop strong foundational leadership skill-sets and refine their vision of success. Female leaders face
unique challenges throughout their leadership journey and sometimes struggle to develop an authentic leadership style due to external pressures.
Across both the public and private sectors, aspiring and emerging female leaders need to develop their own unique leadership style, working with
their strengths and weaknesses. With a broad portfolio of responsibilities, it is not uncommon for operations leaders to put a surplus emphasis on
their technical knowledge, rather than focusing on their leadership skill-sets. Although it is important to have an understanding of up-to-date policies,
procedures, controls and budgets, managers looking to progress must invest in the development of the skills and strategies necessary to lead.
This premier workshop will focus on creating a foundational skill set for executive leadership. Participants will explore the challenges female leaders face in
operations leadership and develop skills that will allow them to overcome these barriers. With an emphasis on emotional intelligence, sharpening attention
and bringing mindfulness into the workplace, these foundational skills are paramount to succeeding in an advanced leadership role.

We talk a lot about how to reach your potential and succeed as a leader,
but what does success really look like? And furthermore, what does it
mean to you? The vision of success varies for each individual and tends to
change as you grow and develop, both professionally and personally. What
were you striving for when your leadership journey began? Are you still on
the same path? How does it compare and what’s next? We have invited
some of Australia’s most influential and inspiring leaders to reflect on their
own personal vision of success, how it has changed and developed with
them, and their advice to you for turning that vision into a reality.

ABOUT THE EVENT
Aspiring and emerging leaders in operational focused roles across industry,
including:
Also, common Divisional Corporate roles including:
Operational leadership roles are integral to an organisation’s ability to
execute strategy. The roles are often complex, broad and sometimes
difficult to define — yet they are vital to achieving results and maintaining
stability and smooth delivery. The position oversees various internal
groups within an organisation to ensure they are integrated into the same
business plan with well defined responsibilities and accountability. Often
operating across a broad portfolio of business units, it is important that
leaders ensure that teams function together effectively as a unit to ensure
operational integrity.
In order to achieve and excel in this complex role, female leaders must
develop superior leadership skill-sets—focusing on agility, and quickly
switching from tactical to strategic. For long-term career success in these
roles it is important to develop strategies to overcome barriers that stand
between them and their vision of success.
The operations role is often male-dominated, especially in senior executive
leadership suite. As a result, there are a number of challenges that aspiring
and emerging female leaders need to address in order to take the next
step in leadership. Leaders need to overcome barriers such as social
expectations and unconscious bias that prevents women from stepping up
into senior operations leadership.
Whilst it is helpful to have technical knowledge and expertise, leadership
success in the operations space is reliant on strategy, communication and
the ability to manage and lead a diverse portfolio. These unique skills are
often attributed to women, but need to be refined into authentic leadership
skills to encourage success in this business landscape.
The Women in Operations Leadership Summit 2016 explores the
challenges women face in operations roles, both in their attempt to
move up the career ladder and as established leaders. At this premier
professional development event, aspiring, emerging and established
leaders will have the opportunity to reflect on what success means to them,
gain strategies to manage a productive team and leave with a firm grasp of
their career goals and how to reach them.
Sparking innovation and being on the forefront of positive
change can be a catalyst for promotion. As Acting Chief
Operating Officer, Jacqui has been highly involved in change
management at the Australian Taxation Office. She will
explore:
• Creating significant change to demonstrate your potential
• Influencing a desire for improvement and excellence in
		 your team
• Promoting and highlighting positive change in your

she gained influence throughout her career. Explore:

Aspiring operations leaders are being presented with new
and exciting opportunities despite the complex and often
undefined nature of their roles. As these positions evolve to
embrace workplace flexibility and leadership diversity in the
public and private sectors, high-achieving women are set to
create a new vision of success at the executive level. In this
session, the floor will be opened to free-flowing discussion as
participants reflect on the key themes addressed throughout
the summit.

Achieving Operational Excellence: Taking Learning from Theory to Practice in the Workplace
Living in an operational world is not without its challenges. With a broad portfolio and responsibility for an organisation’s continued productivity, operations
leaders must be pragmatic and strategic with an influential leadership presence.
All leaders need to understand where their strengths lie and how to use these to provide visionary and innovative strategic leadership. An operations leader
has the opportunity to drive positive workplace culture, improve staff engagement, and implement innovative organisational change. Executed successfully,
this can create heightened employee productivity, resulting in improvements to the bottom line, happy customers and satisfied stakeholders. However, in
order to do so, leaders must develop strategies to effectively influence under pressure and manage a team through turbulent times.
This interactive workshop will inspire female leaders to reach their potential as leaders through practical strategies that will make a powerful, positive and
long lasting impact in the workplace. Participants will leave with a refined understanding of how to be the most effective operational leader and consider
strategies to overcome the many hurdles of leadership. This is the chance for both leaders and emerging leaders to reflect on their leadership knowledge
and translate it into a concrete plan for career progression.

The roles are often complex, broad and sometimes difficult to define — yet they are vital to achieving results and maintaining stability and smooth delivery. The position oversees various internal groups within an organisation to ensure they are integrated into the same business plan with well defined responsibilities and accountability. Often operating across a broad portfolio of business units, it is important that leaders ensure that teams function together effectively as a unit to ensure operational integrity. In order to achieve and excel in this complex role, female leaders must develop superior leadership skill-sets—focusing on agility, and quickly switching from tactical to strategic. For long-term career success in these roles it is important to develop strategies to overcome barriers that stand between them and their vision of success. The operations role is often male-dominated, especially in senior executive leadership suite. As a result, there are a number of challenges that aspiring and emerging female leaders need to address in order to take the next step in leadership. Leaders need to overcome barriers such as social expectations and unconscious bias that prevents women from stepping up into senior operations leadership. Whilst it is helpful to have technical knowledge and expertise, leadership success in the operations space is reliant on strategy, communication and the ability to manage and lead a diverse portfolio. These unique skills are often attributed to women, but need to be refined into authentic leadership skills to encourage success in this business landscape. The Women in Operations Leadership Summit 2016 explores the challenges women face in operations roles, both in their attempt to move up the career ladder and as established leaders. At this premier professional development event, aspiring, emerging and established leaders will have the opportunity to reflect on what success means to them, gain strategies to manage a productive team and leave with a firm grasp of their career goals and how to reach them. Sparking innovation and being on the forefront of positive change can be a catalyst for promotion. As Acting Chief Operating Officer, Jacqui has been highly involved in change management at the Australian Taxation Office. As these positions evolve to embrace workplace flexibility and leadership diversity in the public and private sectors, high-achieving women are set to create a new vision of success at the executive level. In this session, the floor will be opened to free-flowing discussion as participants reflect on the key themes addressed throughout the summit. • What was your initial vision of success? • How has that vision changed over time? • Inspired with new insights, what do you need to do to reach your career goals now? With a broad portfolio and responsibility for an organisation’s continued productivity, operations leaders must be pragmatic and strategic with an influential leadership presence. All leaders need to understand where their strengths lie and how to use these to provide visionary and innovative strategic leadership. An operations leader has the opportunity to drive positive workplace culture, improve staff engagement, and implement innovative organisational change. Executed successfully, this can create heightened employee productivity, resulting in improvements to the bottom line, happy customers and satisfied stakeholders. However, in order to do so, leaders must develop strategies to effectively influence under pressure and manage a team through turbulent times. This interactive workshop will inspire female leaders to reach their potential as leaders through practical strategies that will make a powerful, positive and long lasting impact in the workplace. Participants will leave with a refined understanding of how to be the most effective operational leader and consider strategies to overcome the many hurdles of leadership.
