by touching it is
called contact force.
• Types:
– Muscular force
– Frictional force

11. MUSCULAR FORCE
In previous activities, force is caused by the
action of muscles. Hence this force is called
muscular force.

• The running person slow down due to the
force acting between the person and the
ground. It is the force of friction which causes
the person to rest.
The frictional force is always in a direction
opposite to the direction of motion of the
object.

• A non-contact force
is any force applied
to an object by
another body
without any
contact.

A magnet can exert a force on another magnet
without touching it.
• Magnetic force is a non-contact force.

• When an object is thrown in upward direction,
the object falls towards the earth. It is
because the earth pulls them down. This force
is called force of gravity.
• It is an attractive force.
• Example of non-contact force.

another charged or uncharged body is known
as electrostatic force.
• This force acts when the bodies are not in
