2. Dear Sir or Ma’am:
This is a generic cover letter, not written for any specific facility or position. I am a Physical
Therapist Assistant Student, and I anticipate graduating in May 2017. I intend to sit for and pass
the board examination for licensure in July 2017. On this webpage, you can see some of my
professional and personal goals, as well as my resume. The rest of this document describes some
of my qualities and assets I offer your establishment.
Over the summer of 2016, I had an 8-week clinical affiliation at Dartmouth- Hitchcock Heater
Road, under the supervision of Thomas Sullivan, PT, and Maggie Saracino, PTA. Both remarked
on my strong potential as a therapist, and encouraged me to apply to Heater Road upon
graduation. I have also met with the manager, James Grigel to discuss future employment
opportunities. I am interested in Dartmouth because of the patient acuity, the diverse clinical
conditions I would be exposed to, and Dartmouth’s culture of excellence and prestige. I will have
another 10-week clinical affiliation in the spring semester. The location is pending. Although I
already have a professional relationship and history with Dartmouth, I am very much open to
other facilities.
I currently am employed as a Mobility Assistant on 3 West at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical
Center. This position under the nursing discipline has given me the autonomy to enhance my
patient management. I have proven myself academically capable having earned a Bachelor’s
degree in Biology from Norwich University, and currently hold a 3.65 GPA in my PTA program.
My optimistic personality, knowledge, and patience has led to my success this semester as a peer
tutor. For me, it is a chance to practice education; an invaluable skill that we as skilled therapists
exercise every day.
As an officer in the Vermont Army National Guard, I possess the ability to make immediate and
accurate decisions, perform under stress, and think critically. As a junior officer, I am expected
to learn quickly, often with little guidance and have an expectation of delivering results on very
specific timelines. I am confident that I will be able to adapt, and exceed your expectations.
I hope this cover letter and website provided useful glimpse of my personality and potential as a
PTA. I encourage you to contact me if you are looking for a new therapist. I look forward to
seeing you again and discussing my future at DHMC. Included is my résumé. I look forward to
discussing the details further of this mutually beneficial opportunity.
Very Respectfully,
Seth Brown
