Job description :
Physician who diagnoses and treats acute illnesses and injuries in a hospital, emergency
room or other urgent care setting. They often treats patient who have live threatening
conditions in a very short time span, often with little or no information about patients or the
causes of their conditions.
Main job duties :
• The primary goal is to resuscitate or stabilize patients, taking appropriate action to keep them
alive so they can receive the proper treatment.
• Assesses a patient's condition to determine the severity of the problem. Take a full history,
perform a physical exam, and obtain the tests and blood work that will elucidate the cause of
the patient’s complain to diagnose and treat patients.
• Think and act quickly and make crisp decisions in an atmosphere of crisis to make a tentative
diagnosis and determine the appropriate course of treatment.
• Work as part of a team, with physicians of other specialties, nurses, nursing assistants and
aides who each perform a defined role when a patient comes to the emergency room.
• Refer patients to a specialist as necessary and request consultations with other medical
specialists when the condition is unclear or is so complicated.
• Multitask and pay attention to detail, as they must provide proper care for patients who may
arrive in the emergency room with more than one life-threatening situation.
• Assess; treat, admit, or discharge any patient that seeks medical attention at any time of day
or night.
• May have to resuscitate a patient using CPR or defibrillation paddles. May even have to
pronounce a patient as dead.
• Maintained confidentiality of all patient information as per Patients Rights policies.
• Ensure to maintain all medical records.
