4. Destiny, the library catalog
The library catalog, or OPAC (Online Public Access
Catalog) to give it its full name, is Follett Destiny.
This is our first year using Destiny; we used to use
another system called Oliver.
The catalog contains records of all physical
resources held by the library. Use it to search for…

● magazine archive

The library stocks over 20,000 items
including books, a magazine archive
and DVDs.
Books are organised by language.
Fiction books are organised by genre.
Non fiction books are organised by
subject, according to the Dewey
Decimal system.
DVDs are for staff use only.
7. Borrowing and returning materials
This school year we have introduced a self
check out and return kiosk.
Use your student card to borrow and return
books yourself.
The loan period is two weeks. You can renew
books yourself using your Destiny account, but
only before it becomes overdue.
We do not charge fines for late returns. Lost and
damaged materials will be charged at the list
price plus 20%.

We subscribe to a number of
databases in both English and
German.
From these databases you can
access a wide variety of
resources such as
● ebooks
● articles from newspapers,
magazines and scholarly
journals
● primary sources
11. Accessing library resources: periodicals
We subscribe to a number of physical
magazines and newspapers which are
available in the library.
We also subscribe to PressReader, which
allows you to access thousands of
newspapers and magazines from around
the world in their original format.
Access is automatic on the Peak. Use the
free app to download issues. Create a free
account to unlock additional features like
bookmarking.
