2. Outlines :
What is Cardiac PET ?
How does a PET cardiac work ?
What is Cardiac CT?
Cardiac PET/CT
Advantages
Disadvantages
Mobile PET/CT
3. Cardiac PET
“ Positron Emission Tomography”
It’s is a noninvasive nuclear imaging test. It uses
radioactive tracers (called radionuclides) to produce
pictures of your heart.
allows quantification of
cardiac perfusion (physiology).

4. How does Cardiac PET work ?
A radioactive tracer is injected into the bloodstream.
The tracers are mostly natural body compounds such
as water , ammonia or glucose
These compounds are labeled with radioactive
material
Radioactive material target the heart muscle
(mycardium) which produce energy and detected by
gamma camera
6. What is Cardiac CT?
“ Computed Tomography”
It’s a painless test that look for the anatomy of the
heart using X-ray machine.
X-ray machine will move around the patient and take
image for each view of the heart.
These images are combined to create a 3-D image.
Sometimes Iodine-based dye is injected to the vein to
highlight the coronary arteries ( angiography)
8. Cardiac PET/CT
This advanced hybrid modality allows physician to
examine the myocardium perfusion as well as the
assessment of coronary anatomy.
These two modalities done in a single session of less
than 45 minutes.

13. Advantages of PET/CT
Allow physicians to examine the myocardium function
as well as the coronary anatomy .
Obtaining higher quality of images .
Decrease the rate of misdiagnosis and false-positive.
By identifying a coronary lesions to area of ischemia in
fusion of anatomical and functional images, treatment
strategies can be made.
Less time
14. Disadvantages of PET/CT
Radiation burden is a concern
Less available
Costly
Greater maintenance costs
Short half-lives of radioisotopes
Some of the isotopes require on-site cycltron.
