Transferable Skills and Experience
Expertise of acute and continuing clinical management and prioritising clinical need
During Surgery at Worcester, I received calls from AnE/GPs with acutely unwell patients and triaged them according to
clinical need. Also, I preemptively organised tests/scans to aid seniors in making diagnoses. In Elderly Care, I often
instigated decisions to stop active treating in the best interests of patients (Supportive Care Pathway).
Wide prescribing and monitoring the effects of medicines
I worked in a busy quaternary care centre for Kidney disease and where prescribing/altering of medicines for life
threatening kidney function was required, whilst monitoring ill patients with critical levels of potassium/toxins.
Maximising safety and Minimising risk during clinical practice
Currently at Moseley Hall Hospital, I lead ward rounds in the absence of seniors for large parts of the day, where I am
trusted to monitor patient and seek advice from a non-resident Consultant or specialists at the nearby acute hospital.
Auditing and using Evidence Based Medicine to improve Clinical Practice
During my first job in Stroke Medicine, I completed 2 audits and using the audit cycle and presented my findings,
concluding the results with suggested long term plans to improve clinical practice.
Working with others in teams
At Moseley Hall Hospital, I lead a weekly MDT meeting of a number of vocations from Physiotherapy to Pharmacist,
where poly-pharmacy and discharge planning are discussed for a holistic approach to care.
Communicating clearly and effectively, even in difficult scenarios
During my experiences in elderly care, on numerous occasions I led conversations with patients and relatives, where I
communicated well and broke bad news of diagnoses and prognoses in a delicate yet tactful manner.
Having a capacity for self-awareness, self-motivation and reflective practice
I was aware of my lack of knowledge of child/baby physiology in my Paediatric rotation. I motivated myself to read up on
how to prescribe correctly. I then reflected on cases in my portfolio and discussed case based scenarios with my seniors.
Being committed to personal and professional development
At my GP placement, I sought extra experience by undertaking supervised joint injections, inserting contraceptive
implants and scanning pregnant patients. Furthermore, I took an interest in the business side of running a GP practice by
attending partner meetings about finance and funding.
Clinical Teaching
During my Urology job, I set up teaching for final year medical students at Warwick University (the F word). This
involved slideshows, getting feedback, reflecting on myself as a teacher. I was also Vice President in Clinical Learning
Skills teaching (CLASS society) at University, setting up workshops and simulated clinical exams on the weekends.
Leadership and Managing Teams
In my Vascular job in Worcester, I managed 2 doctors junior to me to cover a vast amount of patients for tertiary surgical
care. I delegated tasks for my juniors to efficiently complete tasks in the absence of seniors during surgery.
Extracurricular Activities
I was also involved as Emergency Response Leader as part of the University Lifesavers Society as part of a committee
teaching CPR to the public and raise funds for St Johns Ambulance with student events.
IT skills
I have intermediate skills using MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint on a Macintosh/ Windows. My typing speed is 48 wpm.
Interests
I was part of St Barts Football Club for 4 years during university.
I was also part St Barts Cricket Team for 2 years during university.
I was involved in a large university charity event St Barts Asian Society Fashion Show in 2011.
I travelled West Coast, Chicago and East Coast USA for 7 weeks in 2012.
I also travelled Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Cambodia for 7 weeks in 2015.
