1. Evaluation Question 3
A film distributor is a company that helps fund, the upcoming film but helps them
get into cinemas, onto DVD etc... The company also decided when and where
the film is going to play. They are basically a necessity for a film to succeed in
the film industry.
There are two types of film distributor:
- Major distributors these are like
Universal, Warner Brothers and
Paramount
- Independent distributors these are like Blue Sky
Studios, Fox Atomic and Rogue Pictures
Our film would need a major distributor as we have as mainstream audience and
a major film distributor would appeal to people and would also help us with the
film. The distributor would also help the movies sell more and would help with
everything that needs to be done. We chose to use universal distributor as they
focus more on family films and comedy films, we also thought of using
paramount by they tend to film other films like
action. We would expect our films to be in places
like the Odeon and other multiplex cinemas this is
because are audience is mainstream and more
people visit these types of cinemas than a smaller
cinema.
Even though we thought of using a major
distributor we had to think about the small
budget films that have done well. For
example ‘Slumdog millionaire’ this was a
small budget film with Celador Films and
Film4 as there distributor. But we thought our
film would be better for a major distributor as
it would appeal to a wider audience.
2. To advertise our film we were thinking to use youtube and other little adverts
online, we were also thinking of putting it in adverts in popular newspapers like
adverts. We were also thinking the adverts for things like love films where they
show the different types of movies.
