COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT FOR ALL PEOPLE KICKS OFF SUMMER YOUTH
PROGRAM SERVING COLUMBUS’ SOUTH SIDE
COLUMBUS, OH - On June 17 the All People CDF Freedom Schools program will launch its second year as a
sponsor site for the Children Defense Fund Freedom Schools Program® at Lincoln Park Elementary School
located on the South Side of Columbus.
“We have the opportunity to provide a unique summer experience for our scholars, filled with literacy, art,
physical activity, community gardening, parent engagement, field trips, awesome guest presentations, and
even a first-time film project - at no cost!” said Rachel Ward, Director of All People Freedom Schools and The
Community Development for All People After School Program.
CDF Freedom Schools® is a national, literacy-enrichment summer and afterschool program for students
entering grades 1-12. The program curriculum supports children and families in five essential components
identified as high quality academic enrichment; parent and family involvement; social action and civic
engagement; intergenerational servant leadership development; and nutrition, health and mental health. This
summer, an anticipated 150 sites nationwide will host CDF Freedom Schools. The CDF Freedom School
Program has grown in enrollment since the previous year from 49 to 75 students entering grades 1-9.
The All People CDF Freedom Schools Program is made possible through the generous financial support of
United Way of Central Ohio, Franklin County Department of Job & Family Services, The Columbus
Foundation, Ingram White Castle Foundation, the Dollar General Summer Literacy Foundation, Local Matters
and the United Methodist Church West Ohio Conference Let Justice Roll initiative. In-kind facilities support is
provided by Columbus City Schools.
“Community Development for All People is superbly blessed to receive support from a variety of funding
organizations, so that we may in turn support and serve others,” says Ms. Ward.
