cousin, niece or a friend.

4. There are more slaves today than when slavery was legal.
•There are an estimated 27 million slaves in the world today, more
than at any point in history.
•In the United states at least 100,000 children are forced into
prostitution every year, with an average age of 13 years old.
•Human trafficking is the fastest growing criminal industry in the
world, set to outgrow drug trafficking.
5. Josiah Wedgwood I, a passionate anti-slavery campaigner and friend of
William Wilberforce, produced the first anti-slavery medallion in 1787. It was
one of the earliest tokens of public disapproval against the evils of the slave
trade. Josiah Wedgwood's design, depicting a kneeling slave, with the famous
motto: AM I NOT A MAN AND A BROTHER? was reproduced on pottery and
medallions, which were widely distributed and became the most easily
recognizable image of the campaign against the slave trade.
6. In 1788 Wedgwood sent a large number of cameos to
Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia who remarked on the
value of the medallion as a means of bringing awareness
of the existence of slavery to the public.
Franklin declared that the medallion's effectiveness was
“Equal to that of the best written Pamphlet, in procuring
favor to those oppressed People.”
7. During the movement to abolish slavery in England over
200 years ago, the slave medallion was used to bring
about compassion for slaves.
Reading about this endeavor inspired me to create a
modern-day anti-slavery medallion.
8. With the artistic craftsmanship of the Northwest Territorial Mint this
medallion has been created with a compelling and thought provoking
image for the campaign against human trafficking. My hope is that it
can be used to bring awareness of human trafficking and compassion
for the child sex trafficking victim.
9. •I have sent many medallions from the initial minting to a
variety of people and anti-trafficking organizations. In
order to continue this, an additional amount of medallions
need to be ordered.
•The initial funds raised will go to produce the medallions.
Additional funds raised will help cover the cost for
producing quality, informative packaging.
•Any amount over the goal will cover the cost to produce
a quality website and an animated video.
10. •Medallions will be sent to world leaders, influential
people, athletes and artists to encourage their
involvement in the cause. The medallions will bring a
tangible image to the fight against human trafficking.
•When speaking with men about ending the demand for
sex trafficking, medallions are given out to reinforce the
message, and for them to keep as a reminder of their
commitment.
•Medallions will be available to help anti-human
trafficking organizations raise funds, in order to rescue
victims and provide shelter/services.
