38. Adding value - through Friction Stir Welding Panels that are joined by FSW instead of traditional fusion welding are: – flatter, – straighter and – stronger This Sapa panel measures 3 x 14.3 metres A rotating tool is pressed into the metal and traverses along the joint. No filler metal or shielding gas is required. The FSW process takes place at a temperature below the melting point of the metal. The result is very little thermal deformation – flat surfaces. Sapa Group Presentation January 2012
39. Adding value - through hydroforming Product example: Side beam for space frame The result: – Extremely high dimensional accuracy and – precisely the geometry required by the product and production. 1. We start with an extruded aluminium tube. 2. The tube is then bent under a tensile load. 3. The finished part. Compared with a conventional steel and sheet metal body, this aluminium body enables a weight saving of around 50 per cent. Changes in cross-section to provide clearance in confined areas. A punch in the tool allows holes to be created during hydroforming. Sapa Group Presentation January 2012
40. Adding value - through anodising Sapa Group Presentation January 2012
41. Adding value - through painting Decoral Powder coating Sapa Group Presentation January 2012
42. Adding value - through profile wrapping Examples of wrapped surfaces Veneer-wrapped profiles in wall panelling Sapa Group Presentation January 2012

45. Sapa WindPower We offer the wind power industry smart aluminium design solutions from top to bottom of a wind turbine.
46. Research and development We invest extensively in R&D to continuously refine our customers’ aluminium structures, invent new surface treatment methods and develop competitively priced products.
58. Extracting bauxite – limited environmental load The area affected by bauxite extraction is relatively limited (Production of 100,000 tonnes of ingots for manufacturing aluminium profiles requires the an area of around 0.05 km 2 ) And where extraction has been completed the original environment can be recreated. (moving soil, collecting and planting seeds) Sapa Group Presentation January 2012
59. Green metal - thanks to its properties Low weight High strength Superior malleability. Ease of machining Excellent corrosion resistance Sustainability. 75% of all aluminium produced globally since 1888 is still in use Sapa Group Presentation January 2012
