IN BRIEF Customer Profile:
ABOUT SANGFOR IAM
Unified Care Services provides professional and compassionate in-home living assistance for adults
and seniors. The company also manages multiple healthcare facilities in California, with 18 of the
managed healthcare sites connected by 2Mbps to 6 Mbps links. Unified Care Services’ IT department
faced the problem of slow Internet connections that many users complained about when sending
email, accessing websites and performing other office duties. Unified Care Services deployed Sangfor
IAM to improve the overall end-user experience by managing bandwidth consumption for each
individual at the start of 2014.
Challenge: improving user experience with limited bandwidth
The IT staff was faced with the challenge of improving the end-user experience, especially for key
applications such as TeamViewer and VoIP services. One quick solution for the IT staff would have
been to lease an Internet connection with a higher bandwidth. However, such a solution is very
expensive given that this charge often exceeds $500 to $1,000 for a high bandwidth link and is a

recurring monthly charge. “It is not a wise idea
to simply upgrade the bandwidth before the root
cause of the slow Internet connection has been
determined,” said Tony Diaz, the management
information systems (MIS) manager at Unified
Care Services. Therefore, the MIS manager
searched for a cost-effective solution and learned
about Sangfor’s Internet Access Management
(IAM) product at a reseller event.
Solution: Sangfor IAM manages network utilization
The Sangfor team recommended the Sangfor IAM to Unified Care Services to monitor and manage
its bandwidth utilization. The Sangfor IAM increased the productivity by guaranteeing bandwidth
allocation for critical applications while limiting the nonessential traffic and overconsumption of
bandwidth for each user.
During the proof of concept (POC) at the Torrance clinic, the IT department of Unified Care Services
saw a substantial increase in performance of critical applications and received no further complaints
about slow Internet from the end users. But when the IAM appliance was removed, the old problems
returned, and end users started complaining again.
The IAM solution was able to identify that even
with a bandwidth upgrade, a single user could
consume over 90% of the total bandwidth with
Torrent type tools and watching YouTube HD
videos, leaving limited bandwidth for the other
users working on critical applications. “It is was
revealing that one user consumed most of the Internet bandwidth at that location. It was not necessary
to upgrade the bandwidth after Sangfor’s IAM solution solved the problem,” said Diaz.
Sangfor IAM offers effective solution to
manage Internet traffic, enhance the
internet access environment, and
simplify the network infrastructure
through visibility, control and
optimization technologies such as:
Cloud-based Web Filtering
Control Application Usage
Monitor Evasive Activities
Bandwidth management
P2P Identification and Control
IAM Report Center
“It was not necessary to upgrade
the bandwidth after Sangfor’s IAM
solution solved the problem.”
