Rihanna ensures that her target audience does not stick to only females (who
her music is targeted at); it is done so that males will watch her videos, and
listen to her music.
Rihanna uses her website to target most of her audience. The first page of her
site directs you straight to her latest music video 'Cockiness,' her main
targeted audience are her fans. I would say that the target audience for her
website would be young adults aged 16-25. The colours used are simple to
look upmarket and classy; most pages use a splash of vibrant colour to attract
the audience and be eye-catching. There is a '20% off Rihanna fragrances'
link on the website which I think defines the target audience to women rather
than men. Most of the images are seductive but tasteful and clean which
women like and strive to be like. Unlike many other artists who want the music
to be the main attraction, Rihanna's public image is a huge part of her stage
presence, which is why there is so many images of her; to emphasise her
popularity amongst the public. Despite this, I would say that the images look
as if they are grunge-styled, suggesting she is a bad image and not a role
model. The website definitely contradicts itself as the white theme of
innocence does not match the sexually suggestive images. The pictures
reflect that she does live a rebellious lifestyle which is highlighted in the press
through stories about her drug taking, drinking and excessive partying. This
therefore broadens the audience range to be slightly older, around the 20-25
year old mark.
