1. Task 7 – Methods of film
promotion
By Sam Daniels
2. Research to find out which other methods are used and at what stage they
are implemented.
• Other methods of film promotion are mostly found in the marketing stage.
This includes above the line and below the line advertising.
• Above the line advertising includes advertisements that you pay for, this
includes television adverts, posters in newspapers/magazines etc. This
type of advertising would be done by the big distribution companies such
as universal or paramount. Because competition is so fierce with film
marketing these days it could actually tarnish the reputation of many films
before it is even released! This means you should be careful when making
a poster or trailer as you want it to build hype and excitement, not drill it
to the ground.
• Below the line advertising includes advertisements you do not pay for. This
can include trailers put on YouTube. You can also make a Facebook/Twitter
page where you can like/follow the films page. This heavily relies on word
of mouth as this form of advertising will not be in-your-face like above the
line does.
