17. Philippians 3:9b “ not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes
18. from God on the basis of faith ” Philippians 3:9 b
19. Heb 11:8 “By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance ; and he went out, not knowing where he
20. was going. 9 By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land , dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same
21. promise; (Hotel Earth) 10 for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.” Hebrews 11:8-10
22. * A little faith (even the size of a mustard seed) will take your soul to Heaven. * Great faith will bring Heaven to your soul! *Allowing Him to live in you.
23. Faith involves more than mere intellectual assent to the truth of the Gospel; saving faith includes trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and surrender to His lordship.
24. The old T & O : Trust and Obey (sing) *It is on the basis of faith alone that righteousness comes from God to repentant sinners.
25. Matthew 11:28-29 28 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest . 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and
26. humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29 Give rest = justification Find rest = sanctification
28. Romans 8:29 we are being “ conformed to the image of His Son” (an ongoing process occurring in the present)
29. Genesis 15:5-6 5 “ God took Abram outside and said, “Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars , if you are able to count them.” And God said
30. To him, “So shall your descendants be.” 6 Then Abram believed in the LORD; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness .” Genesis 15:5-6
31. * Righteousness is right standing with God and acceptance by Him.
32. * reckoned it to him… * credited it to his account… * imputed the righteousness of Christ to Abram…
33. *Not only did God impute the righteousness of Christ on us, *He also imputed our sins on Christ.
34. Paul declared that God "made Him Who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21
35. 1 Peter 2:24 24 “ He Himself bore our sins in His body on the tree , so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness ”
36. *That repentant sinners have their sin imputed to Christ and His righteousness imputed to them is the heart of the Gospel.
37. This righteousness of Christ and its relationship to the recipient can be likened to legal adoption and to legal marriage .
38. Adoption legally constitutes a child to be the son or daughter of a person that is not that child's birth parent.
40. When a sinner believes in Christ, he or she is spiritually united with Christ, and that union makes it possible for God to credit believers with the righteousness of Christ.
41. The imputation of Christ's righteousness is not an alternative to union with Christ, but the result of it .
42. *The word “ impute ” means “to pass to one’s account”. *It means that Jesus places His righteousness upon our record when we trust upon Him for salvation.
43. Romans 4:1-3 1 “What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, has found? 2 For if Abraham was justified by
44. works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? “ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD, AND IT
45. WAS CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.” *What a beautiful truth!
46. *Abraham was not saved by good works; but rather, he believed God (faith) and was saved by Christ’s righteousness.
48. *God the Father viewed Abraham thereafter as having the righteousness of Christ. *Hallelujah what a Savior!
49. Romans 4:4-12 4 “Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as what is due.
50. 5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him Who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness ,
51. 6 just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works:
52. 7 “BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED .
53. 8 “BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT .”
54. 9 Is this blessing then on the circumcised, or on the uncircumcised also? For we say, “FAITH WAS CREDITED TO ABRAHAM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS.”
55. 10 How then was it credited? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised ;
56. 11 and he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while uncircumcised , so that he might be the father of all
57. who believe without being circumcised, that righteousness might be credited to them, 12 and the father of circumcision to those who
58. not only are of the circumcision, but who also follow in the steps of the faith of our father Abraham which he had while uncircumcised.” Rom 4:1-12
59. Romans 4:22-25 22 “Therefore IT WAS ALSO CREDITED TO HIM AS RIGHTEOUSNESS . 23 Now not for his sake only was it written that it was
60. credited to him, 24 but for our sake also , to whom it will be credited , as those who believe in Him Who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,
61. 25 He Who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification .” Romans 4:22-25
62. So imputed righteousness has t do with our justification .
64. *Jesus paid the price for mankind's sins. *You see, Abraham could not please God in his own self-righteousness, nor can we .
65. *No matter how much good we may do here on earth, our sins are still recorded in Heaven. *Our sins must be dealt with .
66. This is why Jesus came to earth to pay the price for our sins with His own precious blood.
67. 1 Peter 1:18-19 18 “ knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your
68. forefathers, 19 but with precious blood , as of a Lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ .” 1 Peter 1:18-19
69. 22 “ without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.” Hebrews 9:22
70. *All mankind is corrupt and destitute of God. *Even in our sincerest efforts (Saul), humanity is tarnished with the curse of sin and rebellion.
71. *We need HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS, the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ. *We are saved by Jesus' righteousness through faith.
72. “ And the Scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was IMPUTED unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God ” (James 2:23). Don’t you like to be called the friend of God?
73. *It is not our obedience that makes us righteous, but the obedience of Christ . *His righteousness and His obedience makes it possible for us to be God’s friend.
74. *A mysterious transaction takes place the moment we believe. *The impeccable law-keeping and merit of Christ is transferred to us as if it
75. were our own. *And so we hear of being sinful in state but righteous in standing .
76. *We are the unrighteous in condition but the righteous in position .
77. Ephesians 2:6 6 “God raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus”( our position )
78. There is a difference between the righteousness that we have by justification (given rest) and the righteousness that we have by sanctification (find rest).
79. We can distinguish between the righteousness of the start and the righteousness of the end , between the ‘righteousness of faith ' and the ‘righteousness of life .'
81. 6 “ For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6
82. There are three great imputations in the Bible: 1)Of guilt – Adam’s sin to those Adam represented. 2)Of sin – our sin to Christ Who represented His people.
83. 3)Of righteousness – Christ’s righteousness to all He represented. *That would be us!
84. IMPART 1) to give, convey, or grant 2) to communicate the knowledge of: to disclose 3)to bestow, to transmit 4)to cause a transformation
85. PARTICIPATE (1)To take part or to have a part; to partake (2)to possess some of the attributes of a person, thing, or quality
