What do you hope for? Do you hope for a new job? A new relationship? A new adventure in life? A new smartphone? But first let me ask you this question, what is hope?
Hope looks at the future. You are hoping because there is something to look forward to. Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. Singles individual might hope in their work to achieve their goals and dream. Or they might hope for a relationship where they would receive the love they need. These can be the wrong anchors or sources of our hope.
Hebrews 12:2 says keep your eyes on Jesus who perfects our faith. It is actually also saying that we are to hope in God. Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. Wherever there is full assurance of hope, there is faith. Faith is the full assurance of hope. Hope is part of Faith. Therefore, in Hebrews 12 God is the one who initiates, He is the author or source of our faith and He is the one who is the source of our hope. He is the one we are to hope for because he will be one who will make what we hope for come into a reality. Look at what Romans 15:13 says also.
Romans 15:13 - May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
God of hope means God is the source of hope. I like how its translated in the NLT version, it says this: “God, the source of hope, will.” Hope here in Greek is elpis meaning expectation, trust, confidence and expectation of what is sure or certain. We can now relate this to God the source of hope as God our source of confidence as we expect something to be sure or certain
That’s why I would like to define hope as CONFIDENCE IN THE FUTURE ANCHORED ON GOD WITH GREAT EXPECTATIONS
Great Expectations because God can do more than what we could think of our imagine and because we expect it to actually happen. As one famous preacher said, biblical hope is just not a desire but it expects it to happen

Here is an article I came across from the Between Two Worlds blog site, which is a 2001 interview of John Stott by Art Lindsley. It's well worth your time. Here are the questions:
1. What are the top three needs of the church today?
2. What legacy would you like to leave with the leaders, with whom you have been involved?
3. Which is the most important book you have written?
4. What are the top five most influential books in your life?
5. How do you shape your devotional life?
6. How have you been so productive in writing?
7. What advice have you for us in learning to communicate across cultures?
Dr. John Stott is considered by many one of the finest theologians of the present era. If you will pay special attention to what has most shaped his Bible devotional plan.
This is about the Holy Spirit being interested in convicting the world about righteousness. Jesus is returning to the Father and they will see him no longer.

The Hope of Salvation - Jude 1:24-25 - MessageCole Hartman
Jude gives us hope at the end of a dark letter. In a dark world like today, we need the light of Christ to shine brighter and brighter. Jude shows us where to fix our focus so we can be filled with God's goodness and glory. Join us to explore this incredible passage.
2 Peter 3: Because some scriptures are hard to understand and some will force them to say things God never intended, Peter warns us to take care.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375
10. JUSTIFICATION Justification is an instantaneous act of God in which He thinks of our sins as forgiven and Christ’s righteousness as belonging to us. In so doing He declares us to be righteous in His sight. Galatians 2:16 “ nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.”
11.
12.
13. OBSERVATION #1 Justification is based on the blood of Jesus. Rom. 5:9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. 1John 1:7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. In other words when God justifies a man, He is not looking at the man. But rather God is looking at the blood of Christ. When God justifies a man, He does not justify based on anything in the man.
14. A man goes to heaven on the basis of what someone else has done. God doesn’t justify a man because he is or has become in anyway godly. But rather we learn from Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness, Do you feel unworthy of your justification? Well if you do then you are exactly right because you in fact do not deserve it, nor have you earned it. Everything about a man cries out against justification but God justifies on the basis the blood of Christ. This of course includes our repentance and our faith. But these are the “means of” but not “ground or cause for” justification
15.
16. Question When the judge condemns the guilty man for his crime, does the judge make that man bad on the inside? Answer - of course NOT! Turn to Luke 7:29
17. OBSERVATION #3 Justification has no grading by degrees. When a person is justified, that person is 100% justified right then and right there. A person is either 100% righteous in the eyes of God’s law or a person is 100% condemned. James 2:10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
18.
19. OBSERVATION #4 Justification is more than a pardon. In our country the governor of the president has the power to pardon a criminal. And sometimes a wicked man is pardoned. When a guilty man is pardoned is the crime paid for? Was the threatened sentence of the law carried out? Ezek. 18:4 “Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die. If God were to overlook sin then He would not be just. But He is just so there is penalty for sin and that is death. Pardon gets a man off the hook without justice being satisfied.
20. OBSERVATION #5 Justification is both positive and negative Rom. 4:6 just as David also speaks of the blessing on the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works: Rom. 4:7 “BLESSED ARE THOSE WHOSE LAWLESS DEEDS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN, AND WHOSE SINS HAVE BEEN COVERED. Rom. 4:8 “BLESSED IS THE MAN WHOSE SIN THE LORD WILL NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT.” The negative side of justification is that God will not impute sin to that man. On the positive side He reckons or imputes righteousness not on the basis of works.
21. But there must be positive obedience in order that we can join Him in heaven. And that is exactly what Christ does when we get the righteousness of Christ. Rom. 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Rom. 5:2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. Not only were we rebelling and fighting God but more importantly God was mad with us.
22. OBSERVATION #6 Justification is once for all. Rom. 5:1 ¶ Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, The word justified in the Greek is dikaioo, which in Romans 5:1 is in the aorist tense and the passive voice. In other words a person doesn’t get justified and then fall under condemnation and then get justified and fall under condemnation. Then we read in Romans 5:2 Rom. 5:2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. The verb stand is in the perfect/active/indicative
23. OBSERVATION #7 Justification is received by faith Faith is not the ground but rather the instrument or the channel by which a person receives the gift of righteousness. When someone comes to you and says “what must I do to be saved?” If you tell them to make a decision or just ask Christ into your heart what you are doing is directing them inside. You direct men to faith in Christ. The Bible says that we must call on Him and whoever calls on Him will be saved. Faith is the opposite of doing something. Justifying faith realizes that all you can do is to receive the righteousness of Christ and throw yourself on the mercy of the cross.
24. We are not saved by faith in our faith. But rather we are saved by faith in Christ. Faith is like the eye that can not look at itself but must look at the object. Illustration: John 3:14 “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; John 3:15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. Peter walking on water was fine when he looked at Christ. But when his eyes left Christ and he looked at the wind and water he started to sink.
