PDHPE provides physical, emotional, and social benefits for students. It sets the foundation for lifelong habits of physical activity by engaging students in sports and dances. Regular physical activity can help students mentally relax and feel good, while also assisting with adolescent development. Students who exercise regularly have higher self-esteem and lower risks of diseases later in life. PDHPE teaches essential life skills for maintaining well-being, including issues like bullying, adolescence, tolerance, and self-appreciation.
2. Why PDHPE?
It’s a unit that’s “directly concerned with supporting the
development of the student as a whole person”(Syllabus,
p.5).
Students will participate in activities such as dance,
football, and swimming which set the foundation of a
lifelong habit of physical activity.
Children’s habits of constantly watching tv or playing the
PlayStation, may change if they engage in physical activity
in their early years.
3. Benefits of Physical
Education
“Involvement in physical activity benefits people
physically, emotionally, and socially.”(Wuest, D.A., &
Butcher C.A., 1999 , p.44)
Physical education and activity promotes both
mental relaxation and a deep physical sense of
feeling good.
There is increasing evidence that physical activity
can assist a student during their adolescent stages.
4. More benefits …
“Children who exercise regularly have higher levels of
self-esteem.”(Brown, W.J & Brown P.R., 1996, p.19)
Student’s will discover the healthy benefits of living an
active lifestyle.
For children “the benefits of regular physical activity
include lower blood pressure and reduced blood lipids, in
the long term, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease,
diabetes and obesity”(Brown, W.J., & P.R., 1996, p.19).
5. Make it Count
PDHPE is a subject that not only explores
physical education but the essential knowledge
needed to maintain issues such as bullying,
adolescence, tolerance, and appreciation of
oneself.
Although PDHPE is undertaken in most schools
it is encouraged that students maintain physical
activity in their primary years.
6. There's more ……
Throughout PDHPE students will learn the skills of
safe living, healthy eating, staying active, and
wellbeing.
If students can grasp an understanding of the
benefits of PDHPE at an early age , than they can
continue with Physical activity into their later life.
Overall PDHPE is an enjoyable and fun subject which
focuses on maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
