stimulatingmyinterestinenvironmental monitoring. Thisdegree involveddetailedfocusontopics
such as ecotoxicology,climatechange inmarine systems,andenvironmental monitoringtechniques.
I alsotook part ina projectwhichinvestigatedthe realisticapplicationof arenewableenergy
developmentinthe Clyde,whichgave me aninsightintoall the differentaspectsof renewable
development,includingenvironmental,social andeconomicimplications.
My dissertationinvolvedmappingseagrassinthe Firthof ForthusingGPS devicesandmanipulating
the acquireddata usingArcMap10.1. Thisprojectallowedme togainvaluable practical experience
insurveyworkand I nowfeel confidentusingGISsoftware.

My undergraduate degree allowedme todevelopastrongknowledge of bothterrestrial and
marine samplingandanalytical procedures,developedthroughvariousfieldstudiesincluding
geological mappinginthe ScottishHighlands;abathymetricandhydrographicstudyof aScottish
fjord(basedatthe ScottishMarine Institute forMarine Science);andalsoatwo weekstudyonthe
recoveryof coral reefsinJamaica. Thisfinal studyinvolvedbothfreshwaterandmarine sampling,
followedbyanalysistoinvestigate the relativecontributions of the karstlimestonegeologyand
anthropogenicpollutiontothe waterqualityof the area.
My undergraduate dissertationinvolvedcomparingthe efficiencyof mine waterremediation
techniquesalongthe RiverAlmond. Thisworkinvolvedextensive riverprofiling,samplingandfield
measurementsaswell ashighpoweredanalysisbyICP-OES,andalkalinitydeterminationusing
potentiometrictitration.
Further taught modulesinclude: appliedenvironmental geoscience,earthsurface processes,marine
systemsandpolicies,global environmental change,aquaticsystems,sedimentology,chemical
geologyandoceanography.

responsible forvariousjobs,suchasauditing,orderingsuppliesandstock,bankingandadvertising
events. EarlierthisyearIwas trustedtorun the bar while mymangerwasonholiday,whichI
believedemonstratesalevel of trustworthinessandresponsibility.
