Clinical Improvement lead- deterioration – Patient Safety
Collaborative

Eastern Regional Clinical improvement lead, leading the patient
safety strategy, program manager for the National Managing
Deterioration Programs creating a common language of
deterioration across all care sectors.
I design, host and chair National and local networking events,
led the remote monitoring national community of practice.
Returning to my clinical role over covid made space for the
design of a pilot supporting remote monitoring in care homes,
successful in its delivery, it’s now scaling up across the UK it has
created the use of a common language of deterioration that is
recognised in all care sectors, there are 3000 Whzan blue boxes
connecting care homes to systemwide clinical support, leading
to regional pathway re-design.
Experienced advisor to innovators supporting design,
implementation, capturing learning to shape future iterations.
Awarded the patient voice for three years
Award for designing a deterioration QI data dashboard.
Published in the Ergonomist presenting HF research at National
conference 2022
University Hospitals of Leicester. Matron – Out of Hours
services, Critical Care Outreach
2014–2019
Matron in critical care, manager of both acute response teams
CCOT and Out of Hours Response team. Their remit is to
respond timely to deteriorating patients, stabilise and transfer
safety to appropriate areas. I was also influential in the design
and implementation delivery of electronic observations alerting
system, e- handover and safety huddles across all three sites.
Used lean QI, to create aggregated data sets to improve
response times, reduce cardiac arrest rates and improve
outcomes for patients out of hours, supporting further financial
growth in the service.
Recognition at the patient safety congress for both projects led
to my regional role.

2006–2014
Initially worked up through intensive care specialties – max fax,
oncology, transplant, respiratory and cardiac to specialize in
responding to deteriorating patients, using advanced skills to
clinically manage and transfer critically ill patients. Qualified as a
manual handling key trainer, designed and delivered a patient
safety module.
Studied and Awarded a Masters degree in Patient Safety
Management plus Clinically, passed the Advanced Assessment
Skills Training.
Awarded for work supporting transplant patients and families
following policy and training design.
Southend General Hospital. Critical Care Nurse
1999 -2006
Training at this hospital and others in the region I build on my
previous work as a registered dental nurse. Settling in airway
management in the ITU, I gained experience in shift
management advanced skills plus manual handling to secure a
post in a large teaching hospital.
Out of work
You will mostly find me splitting my time between the outdoors
and the arts, I enjoy theatre that challenges the norms and
exploring different genres that push the boundaries between
entertainment and creative learning.
To fully relax you’ll find me at se, having grown up sailing my
passion for this has taken me around many places in the UK and
Europe.

Matron – Out of Hours services, Critical Care Outreach 2014–2019 Matron in critical care, manager of both acute response teams CCOT and Out of Hours Response team. Their remit is to respond timely to deteriorating patients, stabilise and transfer safety to appropriate areas. I was also influential in the design and implementation delivery of electronic observations alerting system, e- handover and safety huddles across all three sites. Used lean QI, to create aggregated data sets to improve response times, reduce cardiac arrest rates and improve outcomes for patients out of hours, supporting further financial growth in the service. Recognition at the patient safety congress for both projects led to my regional role. Guys and St Thomas Hospital - London. Critical care response team sister 2006–2014 Initially worked up through intensive care specialties – max fax, oncology, transplant, respiratory and cardiac to specialize in responding to deteriorating patients, using advanced skills to clinically manage and transfer critically ill patients. Studied and Awarded a Masters degree in Patient Safety Management plus Clinically, passed the Advanced Assessment Skills Training. Awarded for work supporting transplant patients and families following policy and training design. Southend General Hospital. Critical Care Nurse 1999 -2006 Training at this hospital and others in the region I build on my previous work as a registered dental nurse. Settling in airway management in the ITU, I gained experience in shift management advanced skills plus manual handling to secure a post in a large teaching hospital. Out of work You will mostly find me splitting my time between the outdoors and the arts, I enjoy theatre that challenges the norms and exploring different genres that push the boundaries between entertainment and creative learning.
