3. How He Became King
● Charles Martel was imprisoned by Plectrude.
● He defeated the Neustrians after escaping prison and became leader
of the Franks.

● Muslims threatens Gaul then reach Burgundy and sacks Autun.
● Charles’ calvary managed to turn back the Muslims in the Battle of
Tours.
● After the Battle of Tours there were no great invasions from the
Muslims in the Frankish territory.

Charles Martel vs Emir Abdul Rahman
● He came from conquering Iberian peninsula and he wanted to
conquer more. Charles tempted them and assault them in their uphill
full of trees position and he won. He even laid the foundation of
Christianity in Carolingian Dynasty by supporting missionaries act.

7. End of Life
● Charles Martel started to fall sick in the late 730s, and in 741 he
retired to his palace at Quierzy-sur-Oise, the place where he died.
Before his death he divided the Merovingian kingdom (Frankish
kingdom 476-750) to his two sons, Pepin III and Carloman.
