2. Name of the Book:
“Genealogy of the Kings of
France”
Author: Claude Wenzler
Year:2010
3. This book tells us about all the kings of France, including
the dynasties of the Merovingians, Carolingians,
Capetians, Valois, and Bourbons.
I found out a lot of information about the kings of France,
what they did, how they ruled, and in which wars they
participated.
Of all the characters in this book, I found the most
interesting Charles the Great (Charlemagne), Henri IV, and
Louis XIV.
4. Charles the Great
(Charlemagne)
The founder of the
Carolingian dynasty.
Was crowned king in 751.
Conquered territories of
contemporary Germany,
Switzerland, Hungary,
Romania, Netherlands,
Belgium.
Pope Leon III crowned
Charles Emperor of the
Romans.
5. Henri IV
The founder of the Bourbons
dynasty.
Was crowned king in 1589
after the death of Henri III as
the closest inheritor
descending from Hugh
Capet.
To become a king, he had to
convert to Catholicism.
France economy was better
off during his reign.
Was assassinated by a
religious sectarian Ravaillac.
Paris is well
worth a mass!
6. Louis XIV
Was crowned as king in 1643
at age of five upon his
father’s death.
Yet, until 1661, it was
Cardinal Mazarin who
governed the kingdom.
Has put an end to feudalism
and ruled as an absolute
monarch.
Versaille palace was built
during his reign.
In his time, France prospered
economically and became the
center of the world fashion.
The state is me!
7. I liked the book very much. It provides knowledge on every
French king from medieval times until the French
Revolution.
I will certainly recommend this book to my friends.
