2. What is He Famous For?
Storm Thorgerson is famous for his creative talent when designing album
covers.
From April 2nd to May 2nd 2010 the was an exhibition of his work in the
East-London Idea Gallery.
Some of his well known designs are Pink Floyd, the Cranberries and many
more.
3. Step One the Brief
The designer of the album cover will listen to the music, read the lyrics and
speak with the band.
This allows them to be able to brain storm possible ideas that they can
have for the cover.
They want to be able to reflect the artist and the music.
4. Step Two Roughs
This is when the designer meets up with the band a number of times.
They try to pin point the theme that they want to use.
At this point they try to be very creative and are very honest about their
opinions.
Out of the best few ideas, they are converted into more complete
illustrations.
5. Step Three Tests
Once they have a rough idea that they agree on and a budget that they
can work with, a prototype is created.
Models can be created from clay or polystyrene, depending on the idea.
If everything works then a final copy is made.
6. Step Four Shoot
When it comes to shooting a location is researched and booked. If it is
outside then the location tends to be booked for a long period of time,
given uncertain weather.
Models are hired and there is also the extra help of volunteers for if the
shoot is big and complex.
Once everything is organised, a number of pictures are taken under
number of different lighting/weather conditions and filters.
7. Step Five: Editing
This can also be called selection, where the best picture from the shoot is
chosen.
This can take a number of days if there are several similar pictures that
were taken and need to be compared.
8. Step Six: Artwork
This is after choosing the perfect picture they do the final touches on the
computer before handing over the final product.
