The designer listens to the music, reads the lyrics, and talks to the band.
These create a ‘brain soup’, from which ideas can be extracted to form the brief.
After a number of meetings, the designer meets the band to discuss ideas, honest
thoughts, scribblings and word-play. In an attempt to find a theme or big idea.
The best idea will then be converted to a more complete illustrations.
To ensure that the idea works a prototype is often created. Once the rough is accepted
and a budget is agreed, if everything works, the final models are constructed.
A location is researched and booked. It could possibly be book for a long-time
especially if the set is outdoors due to uncertain weather. Models are erected and
positioned, then a wide range of photographs are taken, under various light and
weather conditions and filters.
This is where the best shot from the shoot are selected. This can take several days due
to hundreds of similar shots that need to be compared.
Before handing over the final product any cleaning-up or final computer editing is
performed on the chosen perfect shot.
