Solar tracking system using microcontroller

3. Introduction
 Energy is the prime factor for the development of a
nation.
 85% of energy production is dependent on fossil fuels.
 The resources of the fossil fuels are limited and their use
results in global warming due to emission of greenhouse
gases.
 To provide a sustainable power production and safe
world to the future generation, there is a growing
demand for energy from renewable sources like solar,
wind, geothermal and ocean tidal wave

4.  The earth receives 16*10^18 units of energy from the
sun annually, which is 20000 times the requirement of
mankind on the earth
 Solar panels are used to convert light energy into
electrical energy
 Efficient solar power generation system using sun light

5. Objectives
 To control the solar panel angular movements based
on the movements of the sun.
 To change the position of solar panel using stepper
motor and micro controller.
 To fix the specific time limits for each movement of
panel with respect to position of sun.

6. Methodology
 In this project we are using micro controller and
stepper motor.
 The stepper motor is used here to convert the pulses
into the angular movement, and it controls the
movement of solar panel.
 8051 micro controller is used in kit to guide the stepper
motor in controlling panel position

Increasing the efficiency of solar panel than the
stationary panel.

 There efficiency is high as compared to fixed solar
panels.
 Energy cost reduction.
 Free from pollution.
 Solar trackers generates more electricity in roughly the
same amount of space needed for fixed tilt system.
 Advancement in technology and more reliable.

 Solar trackers are slightly more expensive than the
stationary panels.
 It requires monitoring and maintenance of solar panel.

 Heating the water
 Battery charger
 Emergency battery backup
 These can be used in industries as more energy can be
saved by rotating the panel.
 These are used to power the traffic lights and
streetlights.

15. Expected outcome
 By using solar tracking system mechanism to track the
sun’s position that increases power output of solar
panel 30% to 60% than the stationary system.

 The total cost of this project = 10000/- to 12000/-
