2. • I think you all know. India
was a populous country. It is
rich in spices, cotton textiles.
So, every country arrive at
India for Trading. So, at the
seventeenth century, British
arrived at India for these
purposes and started their
own company named East
India company.
• It was not only the British
who arrived there. First the
Portuguese, then the Dutch,
followed by the French, and
Finally the English.
3. Permission
• In order to trade with India, they must have
permission. Then Sir Thomas Roe, an English
ambassador went to the court of Mughal
emperor Jahangir to obtain trading rights.
4. • Once they got the trading rights, they
made a company called East India
Company to start the trading process.
Its branches are in Surat, Bharuch,
Calcutta, Madras, and Bombay.
5. The small
battles of India
While the trading was going on, the British became powerful
and started carrying out conquests in India.
6. • At 1757 CE, the Battle of Plassey was
fought between Siraj-Ud-Daulah, the
Nawab of Bengal and Robert Clive. Mir
Jaffar, Siraj-Ud-Daula’s Commander-in-
Chief had betrayed him and supported

7. Battle of Buxar
In 1764, it had won the Battle of Buxar fought by Shuja-ud-daula and
Mughal emperor Shah Alam II. conflict at Buxar in northeastern India
between the forces of the British East India Company, commanded by
Major Hector Munro, and the combined army of an alliance of Indian
states including Bengal, Awadh, and the Mughal Empire.
