2. I would like to express my special thanks of
gratitude to my teacher Mrs Anjali Paliwal as well
as our principal Mr. R.P. Tyagi who gave me the
golden opportunity to do this wonderful project
on the topic Economy of sikkim, which also
helped me in doing a lot of Research and i came
to know about so many new things I am really
thankful to them.
Secondly i would also like to thank my parents
and friends who helped me a lot in finalizing this
project within the limited time frame.
3. Covering an area of 7,096 sq km, Sikkim is the least populated and
third-smallest state after Goa and Delhi. Sikkim shares its border with
the state of West Bengal and the neighbouring countries Nepal,
Bhutan and Tibet. • Gangtok is Sikkim's capital city. The state has four
administrative districts - North, East, West and South. Gyalshing,
Namchi, Mangan, Jorethang, Singtam, Rangpo, Pakyong, Rhenock,
Meli, Chungthang and Soreng are the key cities and towns in the
state. • Sikkim has 28 mountain peaks, 84 glaciers, 227 lakes, five hot
springs, and eight mountain passes - making it an ideal tourist
location. The Teesta and Rangeet are the two major rivers with nearly
hundred tributaries. • Sikkim has 15 soil series and eight sub-groups,
making it a fertile land for cultivating rice, maize, wheat, millet,
barley, pulses, soy bean, coriander, cardamom and various fruits. •
Nepali, Bhutia, Lepcha, Limboo, Magar, Rai, Gurung, Sherpa, Tamang,
Newari, Sunuwar (Mukhia) are the commonly spoken languages.
Hindi and English are also widely spoken.
4. 1) Natural resources - Sikkim is naturally endowed with rich
flora and fauna. Its climate and topographical conditions
support industries such as agriculture, horticulture, food
processing, tourism and non-timber forest produce.
2) Policy and fiscal incentives -The state follows the North
East Industrial Investment Promotion Polsy, 2007, which
provides several incentives and concessions for
investment in the state
3) Institutional support - The state provides excellent
institutional support through various central and state
government agencies viz., North East Council, Ministry
of Development of North Eastern Region. Commerce
and Industries Department.
5. A public private partnership is a cooperative
arrangement between two or more public and
private sectors, typically of a long- term nature.
In other words it involves government and
business that works together to complete a
project and to provide facility to population.
Sikkim has 24 active PPP projects of value
US$ 3.8 billion, all for hydroelectric power
generation

9. CG Foods India Pvt. Ltd. has set up its first plant in
Sikkim to manufacture WAI WAI both Brown and
White Noodles, Bhujiya, Cheese Balls and many others
snack foods will be added to meet the increasing
demand of India and abroad. The Sikkim Plant
commenced commercial production from April 2006.
The plant is spread over an area of 6 acres and have
an annual Production Capacity of 11,000 MT of
Noodles. Sikkim plant has already created a employee
base of about 400 people which will increase in the
times to come. The combined valuation of CGFI
brands in South Asia far exceeds USD 100 Million

11. The Temi Tea Garden in Ravangla, established in 1969
by the Government of Sikkim, is located in South
Sikkim in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim. It is
the only tea garden in Sikkim and considered one of
the best in India and in the world. Top quality tea is
produced, which is in demand in the international
market. The garden is laid over a gradually sloping hill.
The tea produced in this garden is also partly marketed
under the trade name "Temi Tea".

13. Sikkim State Co-operative Supply and Marketing
Federation Itd. (SIMFED) was established in the year
1983 under the Sikkim Co operative Society's act of
1978 and Sikkim Co operative Societies Rule of 1981.
SIMFED was established as an Apex Marketing society
for the state of Sikkim with the main intension of
undertaking wholesale supply of consumer goods to
the Multi Purpose Cooperative Societies (MPCS) and
Consumer Cooperative Societies (CCS) and to arrange
for bulk marketing of the surplus Agricultural produce
including the important cash crops of the state.
