  1. F:Hi everyone – We are from team SHOPLINE. My name is Fiona.J: I am Jonathan. We’re here to talk about SHOPLINE. We are on a mission to create a network of mobile shops connecting shoppers and sellers.
  2. JL: It all started with our co-founder, Ray. He owns 70 pairs of collectible sneakers. These sneakers are sitting at home. He’s dying to get rid of them but having just moved here from New York, he found that existing online platforms in Hong Kong were too difficult to use.FL: Investigating further, I also learnt that from my cousin that her small online shop on Facebook found it very difficult to reach customers.FL: My favourite accessories shop in Causeway Bay is suffering from the extortionate rentsJL: Shopping malls in HK are dominated by big brands with big budgets, leaving independent sellers who have might have something different to offer with little place to go. JL: At SHOPLINE, we think the common problem is small businesses and individual sellers of Hong Kong lack an effective way to sell products online.
  3. FL: Let’s take a look at what’s out there. JL: we found inherent issues with existing platforms from talking to people who are using these platforms. Take Yahoo Auction for example – they are the dominant player in HK, but users are forced to jump through hoops just to set up a shop. This is time consuming, and on top of that, Yahoo forces users to conclude the sale on their platform by banning the exchange of emails and phone numbers. FL: Take another one, Facebook Pages. What sellers do currently is attract sales by posting photos of their products on their Facebook page. However, sellers have no control over who sees what on the News Feed. Plus, we found it nearly impossible to find these stores on Facebook unless we were told the exact name of the store. This makes product discovery practically non-existent.JL: Some people are now using Instagram as a sales platform given its mobile-centric and visual user experience. We are a big fan of visual interfaces and attractive photos help attract sales. However, at the end of the day, instagram was not designed for selling! More to come on this.FL: How about Taobao? Remember our poor co-founder Ray sitting at home with mountain of sneakers? He tried Taobao. He never even made it past setting up an account. Without a Chinese bank account, and spending hours trying to set up a shop, HK sellers find it very difficult to get on, let alone being recognized, on the platform.
  4. JL: Let’s take a look at some evidence. The local Yahoo Auction has a very poor rating on app store and Google Play. Users say: “This app is total rubbish.” “This app is only providing some extremely basic functions for the users!”There has to be a better solution!
  5. Let’s talk about our key features!1) A great user interface that highlights featured shops and products. A visually engaging experience that allows shoppers to browse and browse. And lets shops get promoted
