Questions With Rise
Compared to Articulate Storyline …
• Does Rise have a robust enough feature set?
• Can we also distribute Rise through Moodle/Remote Learner?
• How does course tracking work?
• Can we create/administer Rise courses cost effectively?
4. 4
Rise Feature Set
• Rise is templated, web-based course creation software.
• Unlike Storyline, Rise is fully responsive and automatically moves users
from section to section within a Course.
• Rise supports many content types that can be created in Storyline.

5. 5
Rise Feature Set (ctd.)
• Templated nature means options much more limited than Storyline.
• Instead of “free reign,” must conform to set fonts, colors, etc.
• Interactions aren’t terribly flexible or universal.
• Lack of VO may make learning feel one-note or less engaging.

Rise Distribution
• Distribution of Rise courses is exactly the same as Storyline.
• Rise courses can be exported as SCORM packages (as well as
web-only files).
• Packages can then be uploaded to an LMS.

Course Tracking
• Tracking of Rise courses is exactly the same as Storyline.
• Cannot track individual actions within Rise or Storyline.
• SCORM export identifies the “completion” measurement of
course (by quiz or by module).
• Completion measures tracked/tallied by LMS—not Articulate.
• Majority of current data comes from separate files (pre- and
post-surveys, quizzes) created within the LMS.
• Can export “web-only” Rise to pair with Qualtrics for surveys.

Rise Costs
• Articulate costs us $948 first year ($1,298 thereafter) for two
“seats.”
• This includes Rise, Storyline, and other tools.
• We have a “team” subscription, as we have multiple individuals
and areas within the organization using Articulate.
• This comes with more features for managing our Articulate
subscription (like assigning “seats” to different users)—but not
additional features for creating/managing content.
• We get additional savings by having an education license and
nonprofit discount.

Rise Costs (ctd.)
• Monetary and time savings from performing work internally.
• Budgeted to spend $150,000 in FY18 on eLearning vendor.
• With external vendor, course completion (from ideation to
storyboarding to production) takes ~6 months overall.
• Creating and checking Storyline files for individual modules
takes 5 weeks.
• Much simpler process to update course materials within Rise as
well (minutes vs. days).
