new words
• You are going to look up the word you want to
learn on ‘wordhippo.com’ and write/do the
following
• 1. Type of Word
• 2. Pronunciation of Word
• 3.Meaning of Word
• 4. Make sentences with the Word
• 5. Word Family list
• 6. Synonyms and antonyms of Word
6. Step 1- Type of word
Go to
https://www.wordhippo.com
type in your word.
• Example= Tricky
• Click on ‘definitions’ it will list either: verb,
adverb, noun or adjective
• That is your word type. Write it down.
Example- Adjective
8. Step 2- Pronunciation
At https://www.wordhippo.com
Click on ‘pronunciation’
It will display the Phonetic pronunciation:
Example- ˈtrɪki
AND
Give you the option to play an audio clip of the word
Write it down, and practice saying the word a loud. (say it
at least 5 times)
10. Step 3- Meaning
At https://www.wordhippo.com it will also
display the meaning or meanings of the word.
Under definitions
Example-
1. adept at using deception
2. hard to deal with, complicated
12. Step 4- Make sentences
At https://www.wordhippo.com under ‘definition’
they have some great example sentences. Scroll
down to read them. Then change 1 word in 1 of the
sentences to “personalize it.”
Ex- Some of it is tricky to navigate but I think it's

13. Note
You should try to make
2-3 personalized
sentences. If you can
use different meanings
for your 2-3
personalized sentences

-Now it’s time to find out about words with the
same ‘root’ or ‘base’. Go to ‘Word Hippo’

You can also search for plurals, singular,
adjectives, adverbs etc.
18. • Now you know some similar words.
• Write down the versions of the word for noun,
verb, adjective and adverb (if they exist!)
• Example-
• trickster -noun
• trick -verb
• tricky -adjective
• Adverb- Trickily
19. Step 6- Synonyms and
Antonyms

(synonyms) or the opposite (antonyms)
• Read and write down some of the synonyms +
