TEA MUSEUM
A museum is a non-profit, permanent institution in the service
of society and its development, open to the public, which
acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits the
tangible and intangible heritage of humanity and its
environment for the purposes of education, study and
enjoyment.
The aim of this project is to facilitate a process of development
and organizational change within museums and galleries that
are committed to active partnership with their communities. It
will support and develop them to place community needs,
values and active collaboration at the core of museum and
gallery work, involve communities and individuals in decision-
making processes, and ensure that museums and galleries play
an effective role in developing community skills. The distinctive
characteristic of the programme is a collaborative, reflective,
learning process through which institutions and communities

Although the urban bombarded on this natural
environment the eternal beauty of context, still remain here
however due to many human activities the context has been
suffering from pollution. The emission rate urban is the
main challenge to this context. The current problem of the
site is the dumping yard and it’s difficult to reduce this
emission rate but need to control it to some extent.
Therefore replacing the dying natural elements on the
context would be a solution but the challenge is keep the
remains thing as it is. The main thread the dumping heavy
metal percentage is higher than other thing and it is a red
alert to many endemic species. Other than this, breathing
threads skin allergies are growing thread .the master
objective of the design reduce the damage to the context
that created dumping yard. Replace the natural ambiance
is the design solution in addition the building is not
significance as the building is that can use as a design
solution to same problem like this in other places as well.

Kotahena is the one of urban areas in Colombo, where 99% of
Muslim population, 1% of Sinhala people live. The area is
bordering to the areas of pettah and mattukuliya and people
belongs to all income category lives here. The adaruppu street
near woflondal church can be identify as an area where many
lower level income people live. Self-employment, odd labor jobs
in streets and harbors are their main income mediums where
they earn an average of 2500-3500 for a month. Female
population is higher in this area and the majority of them are
unemployed. Primary living in this area is family and all of their
social activities are based on this unit. Commonly there are
around 9-12 children in a family and the age gap between are
very minimum. Due to the lack of space in dwelling children use
to spend their time in streets during the day time. Male elders
are only coming at night and elders use to sleep in shifts. At the
end, though they want to live a free relaxing life, the economy
and other social status have blocked their life towards a better
standard.
CONCEPTUAL DESIGN APPROACH
Design approach The building façade of rifadh tangle road and
the alleyway have a pattern within them. This building facade has
the same façade quality where it has an uneven pattern within it.
Every alleyway captures a frame. Further their life qualities of
introverted and solitude are depicting in the design approach.

ABSTRACT-
Building industries around the world use a diverse range of materials for their building activities, and these materials can be sourced locally as well as imported from foreign regions. In developing countries like Sri Lanka, the technical, cultural
and environmental appropriateness of imported materials and building systems is an area for critical inquiry, due to the increasing tendency for their performance failures. Another equally critical aspect is the lack of proper transfer of building-
related knowledge and skills, from foreign to local context, as well as across different scales, regions and markets of the local building industry.
Often, it is only the material and building system that is imported and applied in the local context, not the performance virtues of the ‘imported’ material or its accurate ways of construction. On the other hand, application of imported systems at
the local level also require certain adjustments to their original technical and cultural use, to suite the limitations and possibilities of the local socio-economic, socio-cultural and socio-technical environment.
Among the imported building systems propagating in the local building activities, metal-cladding can be considered as a major building system, which is increasingly popularized, but also subjected to many per formative failures in its application
across the island. One of the key reasons for this irregular application of cladding systems at local context is the lack of proper transferring of knowledge across different building regions, and different building markets. In other words, despite the
technological system (as a product) travelling rapidly from region to region from Colombo to Kegalle to Hanguranketha the proper knowledge to construct the system is not travelling well at an equal level of intensity. Indeed the knowledge is
fragmented, and compartmentalized, between local regions, thus resulting in sub-standard applications in distant regions.
In the light of this loss of technical knowledge when travelling from overseas to local, and across local regions with different economic and cultural standings, this study attempts to explore following important questions: (1) To what extent the
‘imported’ knowledge is ‘lost’ when transferred across local building regions?, (2) What are the reasons for this knowledge losses?, (3) What are the adverse impact of this ‘negative’
Application of knowledge, specially from a building performance standpoint?, (4) What are the ‘positive’ improvisations the locals have done to overcome the subsequent failures of the technical environment, and (5) What are the strategies that
can be used to improve the situation by keeping limitations of the knowledge loss a constant?
As a strategy to explore the above queries, the performance of cladding systems in buildings have been projected as a factor, which could use to measure the knowledge transfer across regions. The subsequent knowledge loss has been classified
and examined under two stages: (1) foreign to local, and (2) inter regional. During the research, it has been identified that world standards regarding cladding systems have not been applied in the local context. This is understandable, as the
peculiarity of local building environment demands local and region specific solutions. However, It is also been found that the local building knowledge consists of substandard applications, which are heavily increased when that knowledge
transfer across local building regions, and building markets; there is indeed an existence of a knowledge loss in inter regional areas.
The study explores the key reasons for this knowledge loss by framing the research context against a key theoretical premise introduced by Steven Groak, and called as “Technological Unpredictability of Feasibility set of options”, where Groak
argues that every technological intervention is constrained by a given set of ‘feasible options’ (determined by factors such as project budget, regulatory guidelines, technical know-how, etc.). He further argues that larger this set of options, better
the subsequent technological application in the project. This study evaluates different examples of metal-cladding applications across different Sri Lankan regions from Colombo to Kegalle to Hanguranketha, etc. And looks at the options to
improve their application while maintaining the limitations constant, and without expanding the given feasibility set of options. As such, while evaluating the present socio-technical scenario regarding the knowledge dissemination across regions,
study concludes with outlining technical options for imported materials, which can be applied while keeping the given feasibility set of options at a constant. Page-010

In July 1991, a young soldier from the Sinha
Regiment earned the gratitude of the nation. The
25th death anniversary of 'Hasalaka Gamini' was
commemorated on Thursday (14th July 2016).
Corporal Gamini Kularatne, popularly known as
'Hasalaka Gamini' was a brave War Hero who made
the supreme sacrifice during the Elephant Pass
battle.
Corporal Kulathunga was posthumously awarded
the highest decoration a soldier could earn, the
Parama Weera Vibhushana (PWV) Medal after he
sacrifices his life in his attempt to stop an explosive
laden LTTE armoured bulldozer which attempted to
blow up the Elephant Pass camp on July 14, 1991.
The young soldier braving stiff enemy fire lobbed a
grenade inside the advancing vehicle and died on his
effort effectively stopping its advance.
The memorial to Hasalaka War Hero was later set
up at Elephant Pass with the remnants of the
bulldozer he helped to destroy.
This is my design I have incorporate with this
bravest solder life and my concept is based on he’s
soul I thought every people can memorize he’s Spirit
through the shadow of pond which I have designed
in front of bust. Either side of bust I have proposed
war museum and administrative building some part
of the project still under construction.
