2. The Circulatory System
• The circulatory system is made up
of blood vessels that carry blood
away from and towards
the heart. Arteries carry blood away
from the heart and veins carry blood
back to the heart. The circulatory
system carries oxygen, nutrients, and
hormones to cells, and removes
waste products, like carbon dioxide.
4. Fun Facts
The Heart Pumps about 1 Millions Barrels of blood during the average lifetime, that’s enough to fill
Titanic 3 times full of fuel.
The average heart is the size of a fist in an adult.
Your heart will beat about 115,000 times each day.
Your heart pumps about 2,000 gallons of blood every day.
An electrical system controls the rhythm of your heart. ...
The heart can continue beating even when it's disconnected from the body.
5. The Heart
The heart is a muscular
organ about the size of a
fist, located just behind and
slightly left of the
breastbone.
The heart pumps blood
through the network of
arteries and veins called
the cardiovascular system.
7. •Right Atrium: The right atrium receives oxygen-poor
blood from the body and pumps it to the right ventricle.
•Right Ventricle: The right ventricle pumps the oxygen-
poor blood to the lungs.
• Left Atrium: The left atrium receives oxygen-rich
blood from the lungs and pumps it to the left ventricle.
•Left Ventricle: The left ventricle is the thickest of the
heart's chambers and is responsible for pumping
oxygenated blood to tissues all over the body.
8. Blood Vessels
• Blood vessels are the channels or conduits through
which blood is distributed to body tissues.
• The Three Major Types of Blood Vessels: Arteries,
Veins, and Capillaries.
• Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the
heart. They’re tough on the outside but they contain
a smooth interior layer of epithelial cells that
allows blood to flow easily.
• Capillaries connect the arteries to veins. The
arteries deliver the oxygen-rich blood to
the capillaries, where the actual exchange of
oxygen and carbon dioxide occurs.
• Veins carry the blood back to the heart. They’re
similar to arteries but not as strong or as thick.
Unlike arteries, veins contain valves that ensure
blood flows in only one direction.
9. Blood
• Blood is a body fluid in
humans and other animals
that delivers necessary
substances such as
nutrients and oxygen to
the cells and transports
metabolic waste products
away from those same
cells.
10. Blood Consist Of :
Red Blood Cells : Disk shaped
cells that carry oxygen to cells
and carbon dioxide out.
White Blood Cells : Cells that
engulf and digest bacteria and
fungi ; an important part of the
body’s defence System.
Plasma : Straw-Coloured
liquid component of blood. It is
mostly water and contains
dissolved proteins, glucose etc.
