2. The reason I used this was because its filthy
and old ; therefore it gives off an idea that
the doll has been around for a long period
of time – this also gives of the idea that the
mother keeps hold of the toys that are
within the house, almost like an obsession.
The location is set within a normal
household, due to the fact we want to show
to the outside world that a normal person
lives there. Almost like the saying; ‘Don’t
judge a book by its cover’.
The reason we used this picture to
represent the character in the film is
because she looks like an ordinary woman;
but at the same time she gives off and
unsettling, weird look. Which is what the
mother in the film is like, as she has a deep
obsession with wanting a child.

3. Iconology: The reason I chose to use these
two images to represent the films idea is
because, it explains to the audience without
words that it will involve an infant; also
considering the mother is obsessed with
children; you can almost generalise a child
is going to get kidnapped.

4. CODES AND CONVENTIONS:
The codes and conventions of a thriller include low key
lighting, shadows, obtrusive editing, quick cuts, changes in
camera angle, tension music, stairs, flashbacks and the use
of photographs in black and white. As you can see from the
images and the setting we have chosen to locate our film,
includes all the elements above. Other factors such as
disorientation of time, space and montage editing. Are
another factor we have chosen to include in our own film.
The old, filthy toys represent the darkness within the main
character “The mother”; whilst the shadows and low key
lighting in the images represent the inner darkness within
the plot and the mother now, due to her past (as she lost a
child which lead her to becoming mentally disturbed).
