2. NME (New Musical Express) is a music magazine that debuted in 1952, it highlights
the musical genres of alternative rock and indie. They were also the first magazine
to publish a singles chart.
The target audience for NME is men and women aged 17 to 30 the
majority of whom are ABC1’s. The reader ratio is as follows; 73%
are male 25% are female. The publisher for NME is IPC media.
NME is a weekly production at a price of £2.20 and will most likely feature not only
artists who are popular but also those just breaking on to the scene. The magazine is
usually 70 pages, it starts with a section called “News” this contains articles and
information on what is happening in the world of music. The next few pages are
comprised of interviews of artists like Fall Out Boy, Kings of Leon and Aerosmith.
The last few sections are letters from fans and advertisements for gigs.
3. The rolling stone is a music magazine which is published
fortnightly. Its usual content revolves around the subjects of music
popular culture and politics.
It was created by Jann Wenner in 1967 and its first issue was
published on the sixth of November 1967. The type of music spoken
about in the Rolling Stone is quite eclectic, but does have quite a
strong connection with rock, however in one issue Taylor Swift, a
country and pop artist was included while in a different issue
Eminem ,a rapper was featured in another.
The Rolling stone magazine is renowned for its diversity in content,
however some parts have remained a constant like “National
affairs", Rock and Roll and Random Notes.
This magazine is male leaning with 62% of the readers being male
and 38% of the readers being female. The median age for this
magazine is 35.5. The publisher is Jann Wenner.
4. Kerrang is a UK based magazine that focuses on heavy rock music, however it
has published issues themed in genres like; thrash and glam metal along with
grunge, emo and nu metal. It was first published on the 6th of June 1981 as a
supplement to the Sound newspaper but it has since branched off
individually. Its target audience is 17 to 24 year olds with a reader ratio of 45.3
%. Female readers and 54.7% male readers. Just over half the Kerrang! Readers
are ABC1’s.
Its publisher is the Bauer Media Group. Some of the magazines previous
artists include Slayer, Bon Jovi and Metallica. The contents of the magazine
itself involves interviews with the artists featured in the cover story, reviews
are often included.
