Education & Qualifications
2014 -2019 University ofthe West ofEngland
MEng Automotive Engineering
Achieved Deans Award for Academic Excellence in the Faculty of Environment and
Technology after obtaining a First year Average of 85% .
Modules studied:
Year Two: Automotive Technology’s, Engineering Maths 2, Design and Electromechanical Design,
Stress Analysis, Dynamics, Project Management.
Year One: Stress & Dynamics (30 Credit 91%), Engineering Maths (30 credit 89%), Design, Materials &
Manufacturing (30 credit 84%), Energy & Thermos Dynamics (15 credit 79%), Fluid Dynamics (15 credit 73%).
Skills Developed:
 Automotive Technology this year has taught me a truly detailed understanding ofhow the IC engine and
all related components work and how we might optimize it to produce maximum efficiency/power whilst
focusing strongly on the economic and environmental effects. This fundamental knowledge has allowed
me to pull togetherand consolidate my understanding ofthe world’s most commercial form of transport
and all top motor sports.
 Automotive Technology has not only helped me understand but sparked my interest in what I believe is
the future of commercial vehicles (electric and hybrid). In this module we have covered the major benefits
but also the large holdbacks surrounding the electric vehicle and how in the near future we may find a truly
environmentally friendly and ethical way to produce them.
 Broad understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply these to new problems and
situations.
 Advanced algebra a skills that I can use to solve problems mentally, written or computed through Matlab
& Excel. This knowledge and the ability to translate my skills to computer-based programs allow me to
solve much larger problems.
 Team communication, organisation and management skills have all been developed through multiple
group projects. This has also greatly reinforced my project researching, computer aided design (CAD)
with SolidWorks, report writing and presentational skills.First year group project scored 93%, one of
the highest marks our design lecturer had ever given.
 Personal organisation, time management, self-motivation and self-reliance.
2012-2014 Truro & Penwith College
2014: A-level Physics (B), Vocational level 1 Car Mechanics (Pass),  Highest grade possible at this level
2013: A-level Maths (B), As-level Further Maths (B), Subsidiary A-level Music (Merit)
2012: As-level Maths (C), As-level Computing (D)
Work Experience
Festival work:
Summer 2015 Coffee & Cake Festival Stand (Glastonbury, Latitude, Sundown and Bestival)
Summer 2014 & 2015 Setting up local Cornish Festivals and Craft Fairs
Skills Developed
 The ability to quickly learn the strengths and weaknesses ofnew work colleagues and myself in a high
pressure environment, to then make sure we are in a position so that all skill sets can be used to best effect.
 To work, eat, sleep and relax with an ever changing staff group has not only developed my communication
and socialising skills but taught me how to network with complete strangers and create good relationships.
 The vast variety of people that we serve has built my confidence when talking to any demographic.
 Shortly after starting to work at local festivals I was asked to build a small team to work with during the
summer seasons.I chose friends who shared my strong work ethic, in order to work as an effective team.
By regularly completing tasks quickly and efficiently I learned a lot about project management.
 These jobs have taught me a range of team skills from leadership to the ability to know when someone can
deal with a situation better than me, to learn from them.

Totepool:
Feb 2015 Betting Assistant (Cheltenham 2015, Grand National, Epsom, + Many live track days)
June 2015 Courier training and promotion (Ascot,Cheltenham 2016)
Skills Developed
 Dealing with large amounts of cash on a regular basis has taught me how precise and careful you must be
when handling money and carrying large amounts securely and safely.
 Explaining our multiple products and offers to guests with different experience and intoxication levels has
helped me develop incredible patience and perseverance when trying to communicate with customers.
 On the job learning, often undergreat pressure, has played a large part in my training with Totepool. This
has taught me not only how to react and learn quickly on the spot but also how to deal efficiently and
carefully with difficult situations I may not be fully trained for.
 A chance for promotion gave me the inspiration to work above what is expected of me and excel in my
area. This led to me to receiving further training and subsequently a new role with more responsibility.
 My customer service skills have truly been tested by some of the high expectations of horse racing fans.

Interests
Formula Student:
Joining formula student has taught me a lot about the less commercial side of cars. We are currently
designing and building 2 race cars, one petrol and one electric. These cars are almost entirely being built in
house from chassis welding and bending to layering composites to build an aerodynamic shell. The list of
jobs to do and professions required is massive and covers not only a variety of engineering areas but also
marketing, business and many more. As a team of over 50 students we must learn to work together
efficiently and supportively to best utilise every ones skills. My main focus so far has been on CADing the
electric cars rear-end and to make sure the dimensioning will allow our motors to fit within the chassis
before it is going to be made. Along with designing and carrying out an experiment to test the torsional
strength.(Also currently breaking and selling my beloved 2004 Mazda RX8 210BHP Model).
Travelling:
2015: Italy, Austria, Hungry, Czech Republic, Germany
2014: Portugal, Netherlands, Vietnam, Thailand
Over the last few years a real passion of mine has been to travel and explore foreign countries with the
money I earn whilst in education. To experience new cultures, meet interesting new people and live in new
environments pushes me to adapt and grow in so many different ways. Normally I will travel with my
girlfriend but also occasionally on my own. Both these experiences required a lot of preparation, ingenuity
and communication skills often with people that I did not share a common language with. This has made
my confidence grow when dealing with unfamiliar circumstances and people, giving me a thirst for
experiencing the rest of the world one country at a time.
Music:
Music has always been a big passion for me, this is something that flourished over a 5 and a half year
period where I played in a band called Gary And The Minefield. We would practise at least once a week
along with playing gigs in pubs and bars on regular occasions. After a few years we started putting on our
own events.Starting by renting out a venue, hiring doormen, bar staff and sound engineers.Finding local
bands and artists to support us and help draw a crowd from a multitude areas and demographics. Our
events tookoff and shortly after this we were invited to play at a couple of local festivals then much larger
ones such as Run To The Sun (2011), Port Elliot (2011 & 2012), Boardmasters (2012 & 2013). Our music
is still up on websites like band camp, sound cloud and YouTube.
Full Clean Driving License (since 12.11.12):
Long before passing my test my interest in motor sport was sparked through messing about on motor cross
bikes on my friend’s family farm. This included a multitude of other vehicles, old cars, tractors and quads,
as well as our own invented combinations such as the Car towed canoe/ sled/ sofa!
