STANDPIPE WATER SYSTEM
Purposes:
1. Quick Suppression
1.1 used in the incipient stage
1.1.1 after everyone is safe
1.1.2 after calling the fire department
1.2 used before automatic systems activate
Purposes:
2. One Person Operation
2.1 Standpipe systems activated by one person
2.2 Standpipe system operated by one person
2.3 manual equipment provides total reliability
2.3.1 does not depend on automatic systems
2.3.2 does not depend on heat, smoke,
flame
Purposes:
3. Minimal Water Damage
3.1 prevents indiscriminate delivery of water
3.1.1 water supplied at the base of the fire
3.1.2 no spray from automatic systems
3.2 the systems can be turned off immediately
Purposes:
4. Occupant Safety and Rescue
4.1 used to allow time for evacuation
4.2 used to protect a means of egress
4.3 used to defend persons who
can't evacuate
Class I Systems
Class I Systems [2-1/2 in (64 mm) hose connections]
are provided for use by the fire departments and
those trained in handling heavy water streams. In
high rise buildings without sprinklers and beyond
the reach of fire department ladders, Class I
systems provide water supply for the primary
means of fire fighting, i.e. manually.
Class II Systems
Class II Systems [1-1/2 in (38 mm) hose lines] are
provided for use by trained building occupants until
the fire department arrives.
Class III Systems
Class III Systems [1-1/2 in (38 mm)] hose stations to
supply water for use by trained building occupants
and [2-1/2 in (64 mm)] hose connections to supply
a larger volume of water for use by the fire
departments and those trained in handling heavy
water streams.

Assembly 1) VALVE - This connection to Standpipe
controls water flow and pressure.
2) ESCUTCHEON - Conceals pipe entry
into cabinet.
3) RACK NIPPLE - Supports the hose
rack and allows directional deployment of
hose.
4) COUPLING - Allows watertight
attachment of hose to nipple.
5) HOSE - A lightweight, durable, compact
and readily deployed hose that is testable
and easily folded for rack storage.
6) FOG NOZZLE - Directs water flow to
extinguish fire. The nozzle pattern control
permits fog, straight stream or shut off
positions.
7) HOSE RACK - Provides storage for
folded hose and nozzle. The water
retention device provides one-person
operation. Inspection seal indicates
