Rock In Prevention is a cultural arts program that has pioneered an online, music-enabled learning process that instills qualities such as empathy, caring for others, and positive self-image. Focused on addressing urgent needs, Rock In Prevention has plans to expand its online Rock Digi curriculum to a more direct focus on mental health challenges. In particular, the program curriculum for seventh to 12th graders previously known as “Opioids, Heroin, Fentanyl, and Other Drug Prevention” is now “Mental Health, SEL, and Substance Abuse Prevention.” The supporting content for this programmatic shift emphasizes open discussion of mental health and related topics. In tandem with this, students gain tools for building social and emotional skills. This provides them with the means to understand times of emotional stress and improve mental health. These skills are particularly critical to learn in the teen years, when feelings of self-doubt, depression, and anxiety come to the fore. Through fun and engaging lessons, students gain life-coping skills that put them on a path toward resiliency and success.
