Founded in 1990, Rock In Prevention is a non-profit company that offers an evidence-based educational curriculum, which it calls Rock Digi. Its educational offerings focus on social and emotional learning (SEL), which teaches students how to feel empathy for others, particularly those different from them. Rock In Prevention leverages the CASEL framework when creating Rock Digi programs. The CASEL movement began in 1994, intending to make SEL a critical part of education. Starting as a non-profit in New Haven, the group has focused on collaboration to ensure the growth of its framework. This approach led the movement to develop partnerships with educational institutions and governments around the world. CASEL incorporates five interrelated areas of SEL, including social awareness, self-awareness, self-management, decision-making, and relationship skills. Applicable at various stages of an individual’s life, from childhood to adulthood, the CASEL framework helps practitioners establish learning competencies and standards focused on academic success, civic engagement, and general wellbeing. The framework encourages the development of social and educational equity by creating partnerships between schools, families, and communities. It uses ongoing evaluations combined with a meaningful curriculum to foster the development of skills, knowledge, and appropriate attitudes across its five core areas.
