I. Show us an activity you enjoy doing. Tell us how you think it
contributes to your personal and professional development
The story of starting a nonprofit organization
For the last 5 years, the ProStředoškoláky organization has been supporting ambitious high
school students and helping them to develop their skills. More than 2,100 high school students
from all over the Czech Republic have attended 19 educational events we have organized.
More than 4,200 young people follow us on Facebook and every month more than 2,000
subscribers read our newsletter. All of this is ensured by a team of 10 volunteers.
What is it?
Why did we decide to do this?
We believe that contemporary high schools only
play a minor role in education overall.
When students gain the experience doing
extracurricular activities, they are able to choose
their future career more effectively, their ability to
learn is improved and in general they become
better people.
We want to show parents, teachers and
politicians, that learning out of school makes sense
and deserves recognition. At the same time, we
want to motivate less active high school students
by showing them inspirational stories of their
peers.
High school
Education
Extracurricular activities became extremely important
However, we discovered that high schools in the Czech
Republic do not reflect this trend and inform students about
extracurricular activities insufficiently and infrequently (see
the graph below)

objectives
We have set
To increase the number of students
who are doing extracurricular activities1
What are the most common extracurricular
activities among students in the Czech
Republic?
They work on scientific projects, take part in
competitions both at home and abroad, run
businesses, educate themselves on-line or
help the people around them.
We inform students about extracurricular
activities using three tools
Facebook Newsletter Database of extracurricular activities

To create a community of the
most inspiring high school students3
We organize The High School Student of
the Year Award
A lot of young talented students live in the Czech Republic. However, they live in different parts of the
country and have only a few opportunities to meet each other. We want to change this! We help the best
and most active students, the future leaders of society, to create an environment in which they can inspire
each other and work together.
• 65 high school students that do the most
amazing extracurricular activities
• Prizes worth EUR 5,000 (including mobile
phones, Xbox, language courses, books
etc.)
• More than 500 members in the community
of the former finalists and participants
• Weekend meetups and other activities for
the finalists of the competition

How does this activity contribute to my
personal and professional development?
It helped me to gain:
Management skills I have managed a team of approximately 10 volunteers (mostly
still high school students) together with other two co-founders
Events management I have organized the events management at in-house
educational events and at The High School Student of the Year
Award
Fundraising I have been responsible for securing funds for the organization.
During its existence we have obtained more than EUR 20,000
from sponsors and partners
Communication skills I have been in touch with sponsors and partners, had interviews
in the newspapers and other media, hosted our own events
It helped me to become familiar with:
