4. ❏ Teacher’s Role in Crime and Punishment :-
➢ In R. K. Narayan's story "Crime and Punishment," the teacher
represents traditional teachers in South India. He teaches in
school during the day but also gives private tuition to a
mischievous rich boy for extra money.
➢ The boy's parents have unrealistic expectations and believe
he's an angel, but the teacher sees him as a little troublemaker.
Frustrated, the teacher slaps the boy, which leads to the boy
blackmailing him. The boy makes the teacher do various tasks
and tell stories. However, the teacher ultimately saves the boy
from his parents and hopes the boy won't betray him.
5. ➢ R.K. Narayan satirizes over-parenting. The parents in the story try to raise their child
with lots of expensive toys and freedom to play. However, they also expect high
academic performance from him.
➢ The story shows how their approach doesn't work, and the teacher, who is in need of
money, is forced to deal with the unruly child. The story makes fun of the parents'
approach and suggests that sometimes discipline might be necessary, even though
it's funny, it highlights the problems with over-parenting.
★ R.K.Narayan describes humorously how the surroundings the parent’s mentality and
the teacher’s attitude influence the personality of a child.
Parent's Role in Crime and Punishment :-
6. ➢ In contemporary times, teachers are not just instructors but
also mentors, facilitators, and guides. They create a diverse
and inclusive learning environment, integrating technology
and personalized teaching methods. Teachers focus on
developing 21st-century skills, like critical thinking and digital
literacy, while providing emotional support and counseling to
students.
➢ They assess progress, offer constructive feedback, and
collaborate with parents and the community. Moreover,
teachers are lifelong learners, adapting to evolving
educational trends and advocating for positive change in
education. Their role extends beyond the classroom, shaping
students into well-rounded individuals ready for the
challenges of today's world.
Teacher’s role in Contemporary time :-
7. ❏ Parent's role in Contemporary time :-
➢ In contemporary education, parents are integral partners in their child's learning
journey. They provide emotional support, assist with homework, and ensure a
conducive home environment for studying. Parents also play a critical role in
monitoring screen time and guiding their children's digital literacy.
➢ Communication with teachers is essential to track progress, address concerns, and
collaborate effectively. Together with schools, parents shape a well-rounded
education, nurturing their child's academic and personal development for success in
today's world.
8. ❏ ‘Taare Zameen Par’ Movie:-
➢ In the movie "Taare Zameen Par," the teacher, played by Aamir Khan, is crucial. The story
is about a boy with dyslexia named Ishaan who struggles in school. His teacher recognizes
his unique talent and helps him overcome his learning difficulties. This movie is all about
understanding, empathy, and the need for a more inclusive education system. It had a big
impact, raising awareness about dyslexia and inspiring changes in how we approach
education for children with learning challenges. The teacher's role is central to this
heartwarming and inspiring film.
➢ The film Taare Zameen Par is a 2007 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed
by Aamir Khan. In the movie "Taare Zameen Par," the parents play a significant
role. They initially don't understand their son Ishaan's dyslexia and think he's just
a troublemaker. They put a lot of pressure on him to perform well in school,
which makes him even more anxious. As the story unfolds, they realize the
importance of being supportive and understanding. They learn to see their son's
unique talents and provide him with the emotional encouragement he needs.
This movie highlights the vital role parents play in a child's life, and how their
understanding and support can make a huge difference in a child's success and
happiness.
9. ❏ CORPORAL PUNISHMENT – ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
● It makes the child immediately disciplined and
obedient.
● It helps to excel in academics.
● It reinforces positive behaviour.
● It helps the child to realise their mistakes.
● It reminds the child of his physical discomfort and
pain when he wants to break the rule.
● It helps to avoid undesirable character traits.
‘Spare the rod and spoil the child’ was a dictum prevalent in the
past.’
Corporal Punishment is a way of punishing the student deliberately (by inflicting bodily pain
or discomfort) for his or her misconduct or indiscipline, with a view to bring a desirable
change in his or her behaviour. It is a kind of physical torture.
10. ❏ Disadvantages of Punishment :-
● It leads to antisocial behaviour.
● It creates various forms of mental distress and hinders child
growth.
● It is against the concept of self- discipline.
● It damages the teacher –student relationship.
● It results in creating ‘dropouts’ from schools.
● It is a violation of human rights.
● It gives the message that violence is the solution for all
conflicts and undesirable behaviours.
