Editor's Notes

  1. Let me ask you one question class, How modern literature is different from previous literature? How literature changed over time? Printed Newspaper vs social media Literature is a reflection of humanity and a way for us to understand each other. Literature has vastly changed over history, much like technology. It is improve and it also made incredible advancements. Traditional literature usually follow a strict set of rules in writing, whereas, modern literature is more free, and sometimes mixes different qualities of literary work to form a more creative and innovative piece. The impact of literature in modern society is undeniable. Literature acts as a form of expression for each individual author. Some books mirror society and allow us to better understand the world we live in.   In comparison of literature before and now, although there are differences between modern and contemporary literature, or traditional or 21st literature, there is still similarity between the two. Since both are forms literature, no matter the era, these expressions tackle something universal about the human condition, whether love, war, betrayal, respect, goodness, or justice. All literature captures a certain glimpse of life in the humanity:
  2. It’s the 21st century. Everything is electronic, and social media is everywhere. Culture is a living, breathing thing, and everything from the way we speak to the way we write has changed from 2,000, or even 200, year ago. The 21st century in literature refers to world literature produced during the 21st century. It is anything that was written and published in the year 2000s. 21st Century literature is important, because it can help us to better understand our world today, and the great questions that are being hammered out right before our very eyes.
  3. an era marked by rapid adoption of new technologies.

  5. Digital Fiction is fiction that is written for and read from a computer and can be web- or app-based (for tablets and smartphones) or accessed via CD-ROMs. Digital fictions are different to e-books, however. Rather than existing as a digital version of a print novel, digital fictions are what are known as “born digital” – that is, they would lose something of their aesthetic and/or structural form and meaning if they were removed from the digital medium. Digital fictions therefore require that the reader interacts with the narrative throughout the reading experience and include texts such as hypertext fictions, Flash fictions and some video games.  Digi Fiction is a book that includes passcodes so that there is more information for the book online. It might be short videos to watch, or more text. Sometimes Digi Fiction can also mean that the entire book can be found in an online version only.
  6. Comic book is more about superheroes or heightened realities. Graphic contains narratives whereas comic books come in series , it can be difficult to read a comic book if you haven’t read the comic that comes directly before it in series.
  7. Manga are comics created in Japan, or by Japanese creators in the Japanese language, conforming to a style developed in Japan in the late 19th century. They have a long, complex pre-history in earlier Japanese art. In Japan, people of all ages read manga. The medium includes works in a broad range of genres: action-adventure, romance, sports and games, historical drama, comedy, science fiction and fantasy, mystery, suspense, detective, horror, sexuality, and business/commerce, among others.  Manga are combination visual and written stories similar to, but not exactly the same as, Western comics. Manga are set up similarly to comics with detailed art panels containing bubbles of speech. Unlike reading English books or comics, one must read manga panels from right to left

  9. The similarities of Doodle Fiction, Manga, and Graphic Novel. Their same characteristics are: it incorporates drawing, illustrations, or graphics in telling the story. To sum up, Doodle Fiction, Manga, and Graphic Novels have a lot of similarities and differences but their main purpose is to entertain their readers. DIFFERENCES IN TERMS OF STRUCTURE OF DOODLE FICTION, GRAPHIC NOVEL AND MANGA In terms of their structure, the differences between Graphic Novel, Manga, and Doodle Fiction are that Manga is read from right to left, while the graphic novel is longer comic stories and the doodle fiction uses styles of drawing and handwriting graphics to show stories.
  10. A phone novel , or mobile phone novel is a literary work originally written on a cellular phone via text messaging. Can be a form of text messaging, emails, letters, instant messaging, or blogs. IM means instant message Stories are told almost completely in a dialogue, simulating social network exchange. Cliffhangers are common.
  11.  Chick Lit refers to works that are written by young female writers, about contemporary women's life and struggles, with young women as·the target readers.  Chick lit is modern fiction about the lives and romantic problems of young women, usually written by women.
  12. Flash fiction is a genre of fiction, defined as a very short story. While there is no set word count that separates flash fiction from more traditional short stories, flash fiction stories can be as short as a few words (while short stories typically run for several pages). Flash fiction is a style of writing which involves producing very short pieces of fictional literature.
  13. Word count: 128 words First line: It was very early in the morning, the streets clean and deserted, I was walking to the station. “The Metamorphosis,” “The Trial,” and “The Castle” are all very good stories, but “Give It Up!” is a perfect summation of the Kafkaesque: disconcerting and ultimately hopeless. Clocking in at just over 100 words, it’s also one of the most impressive feats of flash fiction by an author largely known for his full-length works.
  14. Word count: 175 words First line: My mother isn’t always Raggedy Ann, but she was when I was born. This super-quick vignette from Becky Robison manages to be profoundly moving and disturbing at the same time. It details the circumstances of the narrator’s birth, during which her mother was dressed as Raggedy Ann… or had perhaps morphed into her, depending on how you interpret the poetic prose.
  15. a six-word story allows a reader to consume an entire narrative in just a moment's time. Good things famously come in small packages and often the same can be said for literature. We don’t always need to read 700 pages to be captivated by a story (we're looking at you, Donna Tartt). Often, it’s more fun to read something shorter and let our imaginations fill in the gaps. The most famous example is probably: "For sale: baby shoes, never worn," which is often attributed (many believe wrongly) to Ernest Hemingway. The first “for sale” calls to mind a recognizable trope, followed by “baby shoes” a recognizable object, but it is the third element that turns this into a story. “Never worn” can invoke many possible meanings, but perhaps most common is the tragedy of child loss. Those baby shoes were never worn, because the baby wasn’t there to wear them. See? A sentence containing just a handful of perfectly placed words is enough to hint at a larger story and hook a reader in.
  16. A vlogger is someone who creates a video blog. Generally, a person who writes a blog is called a blogger, and similarly, a person who makes a video for a blog is called a vlogger Blogs are written by many people all over the world, for lots of different purposes. ... They can be diaries, or records of what you cook, a travel log for people visiting different destinations or book review blogs, or many other sorts of blogs. The purpose of the writing depends on what kind of blog it is. The content of blogs varies significantly. For example, travel blogs may feature many pictures with few written passages, while political blogs may weigh in with wordy takes on the news of the day. The popularity of YouTube and similar sites also gave rise to video blogging, or "vlogging. Blogging is story-telling. A good blog design becomes a part of the stories you tell. The main difference is that in a blog you mostly use written content, whereas in a vlog you use video to tell your story. Blogging and vlogging are now common forms of earning money by writing content or producing videos. The key difference between blog and vlog is that blog is similar to a website where we can get any subject's written content. On the other side, in a vlog, the video is posted on particular topics.
  17. Creative nonfiction writing can embody both personal and public history. It is a form that utilizes memory, experience, observation, opinion, and all kinds of research. Sometimes the form can do all of the above at the same time. Other times it is more selective. Creative nonfiction (CNF) is a form of storytelling that employs the creative writing techniques of literature, such as poetry and fiction, to retell a true story. Creative nonfiction writers don’t just share pithy anecdotes, they use craft and technique to situate the reader into their own personal lives. a CNF writer might retell a personal narrative, they might also focus their gaze on history, politics, or they might use creative writing elements to write an expository essay
  18. Hyper poetry is poetry that is available on a webpage and which takes advantage of hyperlinks. Hyperpoetry consists of words but not necessarily in lines and stanzas as well as sounds, visual images, movements or other special effects. This genre is also called cyber-poetry that refers to works of verse which could not be presented without a computer since it contains links to sub-poems or footnotes, poetry “generators,” poetry with movement or images. Hyper-poetry is usually highly steeped in the visual and involves parts that are read in varying orders. (Kirkwood)
