Rationale:
I have created things such as music videos animations and magazine covers
using software like Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro, gaining the knowledge of
how to use them effectively throughout the year. I have already made a magazine
cover in a previous project so my cover in that has given me some prior
experience creating something similar to my project and has allowed me to look a
little into magazine theory on how the majority are designed and put together. I
have researched covers before but may also need to put more research into
spreads and articles and how they are most often designed.
Project Concept:
I am going to make a magazine about the ancient Mediterranean and European
world, featuring specials on Kings from Ancient Greece, Emperors in Ancient
Rome and Persia, Viking Warlords and Ancient Egyptian Pharaohs. There will be
another section about military formations such as the Roman Legion forces, the
Macedonian Pike Phalanx and the Viking Horde style of battle. I will also be doing
a section on Gods, featuring one from Greek Mythology, one from Norse
Mythology and the final from Egyptian Mythology. To do this I will need to
research other magazines with a similar theme and analyse what they are doing
that makes the magazine look appealing and interesting, whether there are any
universal design formulas between different companies and/or brands and
implement them into my own work. It may also be worth purchasing and
examining several magazines with a similar theme to mine to get an even better
understanding of the design process and how to easily encourage people to
purchase based on art alone. I will also be required to improve my photoshop
skills to manage to create the most appealing art by heavily editing historical
statues and paintings.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
I will be doing ongoing evaluation throughout the process of creating every aspect
of the FMP to analyse my research, planning and of course production, with a final
evaluation of the entire FMP at the end of the project. This will help me get used
to proper evaluation methods going forward into Year 2.
