India’s Contribution
in Satellite
Satellite :An object revolve around a planet in an
orbit is called a satellite. There are 2 types natural
satellites , artificial satellite.
Sputnik-1 was the first satellite launched
by Russia on 4th ,October, 1957
• A satellite will be launched by a rocket .
• Newton’s third law of motion states that for
every action there is an equal opposite
reaction.
• A rocket control system is based on Newton’s
first law: body remains at rest or in a states of
motion in a straight line unless acted upon by
an external force.
India launching a rocket
Indian scientist began to work on a rocket in
1960s.
On 20th , November , 1967 India launched the
first rocket .
Its altitude was 4.2km & it diameter was 75 mm ,
it looked like a toy .
“Virkam Sarabi & Satish
Dhawan” were called as
the founding fathers of
space program in India.
India’s first
satellite………
India’s first satellite was Aryabhata launched
in 1975 from Kapustin yar.
It was named after the first Indian
astronomer Aryabhata .
Upto now our scientists declared that there are 8 satellite launching types of
rockets made in ISRO They are : SLV[Satellite launching vehicle],
ASLV [Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle], PSLV[Polar satellite launching
vehicle] ,GSLV[Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle] , GSLV MK-III,
RLV-TD, sounding rockets, Scramjet engine-TD
SLV[Satellite Launch Vehicle]
• India's first experimental satellite launch vehicle, which
was an all solid, four stage vehicle weighing 17 tones with
a height of 22m and capable of placing 40 kg class
payloads in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).
• Launched on July 18, 1980 from Sriharikota Range
(SHAR), when Rohini satellite, RS-1.
• By this vehicle we launched 4 satellites, they are Rohini
satellites series i.e.RS-D2,RS-D1, RS-1,Rohini Technology
Payload[RTP].
ASLV[Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle]
• With a lift off weight of 40 tones, the 24 m tall ASLV was
configured as a five stage, all-solid propellant vehicle, with a
mission of orbiting 150 kg class satellites into 400 km circular
orbits.
• The first developmental flight took place on March 24, 1987 .
The second on July 13, 1988.
• The third developmental flight, ASLV-D3 was successfully
launched on May 20, 1992, when SROSS-C (106 kg) was put
into an orbit of 255 x 430 km. ASLV-D4, launched on May 4,
1994, orbited SROSS-C2 weighing 106 kg. It had two
payloads, Gamma Ray Burst (GRB).
• Through this SROSS-C2, SROSS-C, SROSS-2 SROSS-1.
PSLV[Polar Satellite Launching Vehicle]
• Its first successful launch in October 1994, PSLV
emerged as the reliable and versatile workhorse launch
vehicle of India with 39 consecutively successful missions
by June 2017.
• During 1994-2017 period, the vehicle has launched 48
Indian satellites and 209 satellites for customers from
abroad.
• With the help of this vehicle our country launched 10
payloads
GSLV[Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle]
GSLV
GSLV MK III
• GSLV Mk III is a three-stage heavy lift launch
vehicle developed by ISRO
Height : 43.43 m
Vehicle Diameter : 4.0 m
Heat Shield (Payload Fairing)
Diameter
: 5.0 m
Number of Stages : 3
Lift Off Mass : 640 tones
• GSLV is the largest launch vehicle developed
by India, which is currently in operation. This
fourth generation launch vehicle is a three
stage vehicle with four liquid strap-ones.
• By this 2 payloads are send.
Height : 49.13 m
Number of Stages : 3
Lift Off Mass : 414.75 tonnes
First Flight : April 18, 2001
• By this 12 payloads are send.
RLV-TD[Reusable
launching vehicle
• It is one of the most technologically
challenging endeavors of ISRO towards
developing essential technologies for a fully
reusable launch vehicle to enable low cost
access to space
Scramjet Engine
• The first experimental mission of ISRO’s Scramjet
Engine towards the realisation of an Air Breathing
Propulsion System was successfully conducted on
August 28, 2016 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre
SHAR, Sriharikota.
• At the time of testing after a flight of about 300
seconds, the vehicle touched down in the Bay of
Bengal, approximately 320 km from Sriharikota.
Sounding rockets
• Sounding rockets are one or two stage solid
propellant rockets used for probing the upper
atmospheric regions and for space research.
• They also serve as easily affordable platforms
to test or prove prototypes of new components
or subsystems intended for use in launch
vehicles and satellites.
Communication
satellite
• Supports telecommunication, television
broadcasting, satellite news gathering, societal
applications, weather forecasting, disaster warning
and Search and Rescue operation services.
• The Indian National Satellite (INSAT) system is the
first satellite .
• There are 37 communication satellites that re
launched from india.
Earth Observation
Satellites
• The largest civilian remote sensing satellite
constellation in the world - thematic series of
satellites supporting multitude of applications
in the areas of land and water resources;
cartography; and ocean & atmosphere.
• There are 34satellites for observing Earth.
space Science
Exploration
• Mars Orbiter Mission is ISRO’s first interplanetary
mission to planet Mars with an orbiter craft
designed to orbit Mars in an elliptical orbit of 372
km by 80,000 km.
• Chandrayaan-1, India's first mission to Moon, was
launched successfully on October 22, 2008 from
SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota.
Satellite Navigation • Satellites for navigation services to meet the
emerging demands of the Civil Aviation
requirements and to meet the user
requirements of the positioning, navigation
and timing based on the independent satellite
navigation system.
• There are 9 navigating satellites.
Experimental
Satellites
• A host of small satellites mainly for the
experimental purposes. These experiments
include Remote Sensing, Atmospheric Studies,
Payload Development, Orbit Controls,
recovery technology etc..
• There are 8 experimental satellites.
Small Satellites
• sub 500 kg class satellites - a platform for
stand-alone payloads for earth imaging and
science missions within a quick turn around
time.
• There are 2 small satellites.
University / Academic Institute
Satellites
• ISRO's Student Satellite Programme is
envisaged to encourage various Universities
and Institutions for the development of
Nano/Pico Satellites.
• There are 9 satellites for instructions.
•ADITYA-L1 was India’s first satellite to
sun.
• It was conceptualised by the Advisory
Committee for Space Research in
January 2008.
•It was expected to launch by 2019-2020.
Chandrayaan-2 will be an advanced version
of the previous Chandrayaan-1 mission.
Chandrayaan-2 is scheduled to be launched
no earlier than January 2019.
• India made 97 space craft missions , including 3 Nano Satellites and 1
Micro Satellite.
• 9 student satellites.
• 2 re- entry missions.
• 67 launch missions Including Scramjet-TD & RLV-TD.
• It made 237 satellites for other countries.
THANK YOU
