Brand new for this academic year, these single unit qualifications were developed with centres as part of their approach to safeguarding. The number of mental health issues raised by both staff and learners is increasing and these qualifications will raise awareness and help individuals look after their own mental health wellbeing, as well as recognise and support the mental wellbeing of others.

7. Key question from Public Health England document, in relation to Curriculum
Principle:
What focus is given within the curriculum to social and emotional
learning and promoting personal resilience, and how is learning
assessed?
A curriculum that promotes positive behaviours and successful
relationships… achieved by integrating social & emotional skills
development within all areas of the curriculum.. including motivation,
self-awareness, problem-solving, conflict management & resolution,
collaborative working, understanding & managing feelings and managing
relationships with parents, carers and peers.
NICE recommendation

9. Mental health in the
schools curriculum
“information they need to make good decisions
about their own health and wellbeing, recognise
issues in themselves and others and, when
issues arise, seek support as early as possible
from appropriate sources. Mental resilience and
wellbeing will form a key element of this new
subject, as well as ensuring that pupils
understand that good physical health
contributes to good mental wellbeing, and vice
versa.” – Transforming Children and Young People’s Mental Health Provision: a green paper
