Ans.) i ) Turning of the taps when not in use. Take bath with a bucket of water rather than shower.

Ans.) Renewable resource:- Substances which can be obtained again and again are called
Renewable resource. Eg solar energy wind energy geo thermal energy etc.
Biomass:- The organic matter contained in the bodies of plants and animals is called biomass.
Anaerobic degradation:- It is a process in which organic matter is broken down in the absence
of air , with the help of microorganism is called anaerobic degradation
3. What is meant by an ideal fuel? Enumerate the changes you would like to incorporate in your life
style in a move towards a sustainable use of available resources.
Ans.) A fuel which has high calorific value, clean fuel, easily accessible, easily transportable stored in
small place etc.is called an ideal fuel.

4. Name any four categories of people who depend on the forest resources, mentioning major needs

Ans.) (I) people who live inside forests, often living as hunter- gatherers or shifting cultivation: they use
forests for grazing their cattle, collection of fruits, fire wood, bamboo and thatch.
(ii) People who live inside forests, usually involve in agriculture outside the forest who regularly use
forest products ( timber, fuel wood, bush foods ,medicinal plants, etc.) Partly for their own sustenance
and partly for income
(iii) People who use raw materials like wood, timber from forests for their industries like construction,
furniture etc.
(iv) Medical sciences depend on many herbs and plant products.
5. In some sites of our country there is ban on the use of polythene bags for shopping why? List three
advantages of using jute or cloth bags over polythene bags.
Ans.) Plastic is non-biodegradable. It also increases the soil temperature and thereby affects
agricultural production.
(i) They are washable and reusable.
(ii) They are biodegradable.
(iii) They are stronger than polythene bags.
